One thing that always leaves stunned, having to do with Ian, it is its capacity, or ability, to which people are concerned. I mean, Acoustic Tour, Christmas Concerts, concert photos that look like Musical with a help on stage, Ryan O'Donnell, the best of JT, and now, a ROCK OPERA!! It's impossible to get bored with Ian Anderson, ... smileyvault-worthy

Everytime i log in to this board suppose to be to chat amongst Tull fans. Reading this thread i kind of wonder if there is fans here.
Ian is 67, will be 68 during that tour. AND I WILL BE THERE. And flying from Montreal Canada attending the first two gigs. Not a lot of rock n roll left in that old body. Let's enjoy it while its there.
Why ?
Cause it's going to be good. Constructed by a pro who knows how to entertain, shows are always entertaining and professionnal. I was a Sherperd bush last year and saw H.E., Loved it dearly. The voice is not what it use to be ? who cares Ian is still making music, still doing gigs. He is not as agile as he use to be ? who cares ! he is still performing live at 67 years old !
So
No way i'm going to miss that short tour, cause i know, like the H.E. tour, they are not going to come to Montreal.
So ...anyone have an idea what kind of show this is going to be ?

We're all Tull fans, obviously, otherwise we wouldn't be here, but some of us have questioned the direction that Ian has taken lately with the announced 'death of Jethro Tull' and seemingly permanent divorce between Ian and Martin. The opera idea seems like a dud, because the subject matter of "the real Tull" does not seem to be a meaty enough concept, and aside from that.....I hate opera. Plus, the idea of re-writing the lyrics to classic Tull songs as a contrivance to help fit the theme, is not something that appeals to me. (Especially because I did not think the lyrics on H.E. were particularly good.) Having said that, you are right - if anyone can pull something like this off, it is Ian. That is why I am going...to one show only, and I'll sit in a cheap seat. No extravagant expenses or road trips for me this time around, I'm afraid. Jeff

Jeff I'm with you Jeff, a lot of comments here are "I statements", such as "I don't like this", "I don't think...", "I don't think Ian should...", etc. Yes, Ian's still performing, and you get to see him more than a few times a decade "if you're looky! ... Looxury!" Geoff (with a G)

It doesn't matter if Ian wants to "celebrate" the real Tull...did we really care about Gerald Bostock in 72 ?? As long as there is music, as long as i see the man on stage with the same passion year after year i'm a happy camper. Of course, if he touches classic lyris to enhance the "opera" then it's all for debate, maybe i won't like it too.à
By the way guys..it's call opera but do you really think it's going to be a real opera ??...come on...

The Ryan Anderson show maybe? Hey look, we are all Jethro Tull fans. Maybe not big fans of Ian's solo work of late. His stuff has been a mixed bag but, nobody here would underestimate Ian. I'll wait and see. After all, were talking about spending retirement money these days. smileyvault-worthy

I prefer the old days when we didn't know what we'd be getting. Me too. That's the problem these days with so much media. Artist give away too much of themselves and the music so nobody is buying the stuff much anymore. Stuff up free on Youtube, bands paying the clubs now to play, rehearsals on youtube, Facebook tell alls. Ian talks too much anyway and creates his own spoiler. Too much saturation. Back in the day of word of mouth there was so much mystery and anticipation you could cut it with a knife.

I have to say that I had trouble with Ryan singing during the TAAB tour, but on the Homo tour I actually preferred him to Ian. If I was Ian I'd get a full time singer that sounds like him - like a Paul Forest for instance.

Yes, I saw Ryan for the first time last December, and I had no problems - in fact, his voice could have been higher in the mix. It's not Tull, so Ian could get a full time co-singer/musician! Now if only Martin had a great voice (and brought his guitar along...) whistle

If I was Ian I'd get a full time singer that sounds like him - like a Paul Forest for instance. I completely agree. Ryan's range and pitch were okay but the timbre of his voice didn't match the arrangements. And regarding Paul Forrest: I don't understand the problem. Ian's played with Paul before, he knows of his capabilities but he's missing the boat. Forget about the nostalgic or creeped-out feeling. Imitation is a form of flattery. Imagine how Rahsaan Roland Kirk felt about your version of Serenade To A Cuckoo.

Also, I found it interesting when she asked, does he attend concerts and he misunderstood it as accountants. He then continues on and on about how much he enjoys planning and bean-counting the entire tour. To Greta's credit she politely lets Ian finish uninterrupted without correcting him. That's the mark of a good interviewer. Don't step all over the guest. But I kind of wish he would've answered the original question.
