What has happened to rock radio stations in the New York area? I don't listen to much radio, but recently I did a bit of driving out on Long Island and was listening to some radio in the car, trying to find a decent station, but was appalled at what I heard:
101.9 WRXP "The Rock Experience" used to play a weird and annoying mix of classic rock, 80's stuff and decent new music. Now they play a weird and annoying mix of classic rock, 80's stuff and mostly shitty new music. But still the best of a bad bunch.
92.3 has had so many format changes it's hard to keep up with. First they were K-Rock with Howard Stern in the mornings, and some great classic rock and new music. Then Stern left and K-rock became 92.3 Free FM, which was an all-talk format. That bombed so they returned to K-Rock, which I could have lived with although it was not as good as before. But a few months ago they changed again and they are now Hot 92.3 Now!, playing all Top 40 stuff, similar to Z100, which is another horrible one. You can't turn those stations on without hearing Beyonce or Rhianna.
The venerable WNEW (102.7) has now become 102.7 Fresh! They are now playing stuff like Taylor Swift and the Goo Goo Dolls. How cute!
WBAB (102.3) on Long Island, once a Tull-friendly station that played some deep album cuts, now plays standard 70s classic rock fare, expanded to included 80's classic rock. A lot of Rolling Stones, Steve Miller Band and U-2, but annoyingly no Jethro Tull. Ever. Not even Bungle in the Jungle.
WTF? Why aren't there any good radio stations anymore???
all's I can say is try satellite radio....I avoided it until buying a new car a couple of years ago....
I know, but I'm like you, Dave.....I hate all the new technology and the notion of satellite or HD radio that you have to pay for is repugnant to me. I long for the old days of free public radio stations playing great rock music.
Totally agree, Fatman! I'm in my car alot and NEVER listen to the radio........have hundreds of CD's that I pop in each & every time! (only listen to WCBS and WINS strictly for the TRAFFIC reports...I HATE traffic) but that's it. Regular FM radio in NYC sucks banana.when it comes to rock music. WFUV,(Fordham U) is an occasional listen for me, tho. Ahhhhhh......remember the '70's? WNEW FM, WPLJ, etc?
But then again, if u listen to any AM staions they're all right-wing, conservative talk shows! All of them. WOR, WABC, etc. What a dpressing time for radi. Luv my CD player, yo!!
Biggles: Sooo jealous! enjoy.

teddy: Seems like everyone trying to figure out " Eat Hermione for lunch" just don't get it. A Popular vegetarian line of food is advertised by a woman named Hermione. You can see the advertisement on line. Thus it is not oral sex with a office girl. Munch.

lclark354: Hello everyone. I recently finished a room addition, and can finally set up surround sound. I've purchased all the Tull sets, except, of course,TAAB. Is there a site where one can purchase & download the 5.1 files? Or, any word on a re-issue?

madjack1959: Hello to everyone from Lexington, Kentucky. Part of what led me here, was mention of Gentle Giant. I've listened to Tull for ages, and then was introduced to GG via Octopus I saw in the record store, and that was my start. I've never seen either "live" :
