Tinkara - Little Wing LIVE featuring Carlos Nuñez
This is a live cover version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing", performed by Tinkara & band featuring the great gaita & pipes virtuoso Carlos Nunez as special guest. The concert (her yearly special event in this venue) took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, at the Cankarjev Dom concert hall, on 16th April 2002.
Carlos Nunez (very well known worldwide for his long standing work with the Chieftains - but also for collaborations & recordings with Ry Cooder, Sinead O'Connor, etc) has often been nicknamed "The Hendrix of bagpipes", beacause of his flamboyant virtuoso playing on the Galician gaita and various pipes & whistles, so the idea was to invite him to tackle an actual Hendrix song - which he'd never done before. Apart from soundcheck, there was no rehearsal as such, and the solos & final breakdown & subsequent crescendo were completely improvised, live onstage.
The audio recording is a direct, two track stereo feed from the FOH mixing desk - no multitrack recording was planned, but some parts of the concert turned out so well, that this particular track actually ended up being used on the album "O-range", the audio just mastered & slightly beefed up by Kevin Metcalfe at Soundmasters, in London, UK.

Thanks so much for posting this one Tull50. Beautiful! One of my all time fav Hendrix songs and as a flute player, to see it done this way is very satisfying and done so well! Darin

Glad you like the post Darin, my intention was to put some of Carlos Nuñez, one of the best pipers in Europe then I remembered this song with Tinkara that best fits the conditions of the reference. Carlos Nuñez is a great flutist Spanish, but their songs are folk Regards!
