Here is a revised version of 'What did you notice'. Rob would welcome any feedback about this tune in general or specifically about which version if any is worth pursuing This is still very much a work in progress song and who knows what it will eventually turn out like. I was wondering I was wavering You did not know a thing about me When you approached me I discerned a certain glint in your eye You must have seen something in me You were whispering I was wending In the hope that your affection would be pending I was standing With a sycophantic look in my eye You must have seen something in me Unlocked a hidden quality You saw it in me Saw something in me Which people have seldom noticed before I was beginning to wonder who I was waiting for You won’t believe me My mind deceives me And each time I reawaken I am sure That my knowledge of your outline Is resultant of nothing more Than imagination I was loitering Idly lingering Stood on the sidelines like I all too often do I was distant as the crescent moon that hung in the sky But my pretension did not faze you Maybe it served to entertain you You saw it in me Saw something in me Which people have seldom noticed before I was beginning to wonder who I was waiting for You won’t believe me My mind deceives me And each time I reawaken I am sure That my knowledge of your outline Is resultant of nothing more Than imagination I lay my heart for all to see A trait that’s none to wise in me I sense the words which leave your lips A tender touch his finger tips But when you wane without a sign A rising tide invades my mind The thoughts that tumble in the storm When you depart I am Left forlorn For comparison here is the original version was wondering I was wavering You did not know a thing about me You approached me with a diplomatic look in your eye Yu must have seen something in me You were whispering I was wending In the hope that your affection would be pending I was standing With an enigmatic look in my eye You must have noticed it in me Saw it as a quality You saw it in me Saw something in me Which people have seldom noticed before I was beginning to wonder who I was waiting for You saw it in me Saw something in me Which people have seldom noticed before I was beginning to wonder who I was waiting for Waiting for I was loitering I was lingering Stood on the sidelines like I all too often do I was distant with my collar of my jacket turned up so high But my pretension did not faze you Perhaps it served to entertain you You saw it in me Saw something in me Which people have seldom noticed before I was beginning to wonder who I was waiting for You saw it in me Saw something in me Which people have seldom noticed before I Was beginning to wonder who I was waiting for Waiting for I lay my heart for all to see A trait that’s none to wise in me A sense the words which leave your lips A tender touch his Finger tips But when you wane without a sign A rising tide invades my mind The thoughts that tumble in the storm When you depart I am Left forlorn Again, I like the revised version better. The singing and playing sounds a little more confident and I like most of the lyrical adjustments he's made, especially adding the "unlocked a hidden quality" line, which fits the song nicely. However, I wish he would have re-written the wending/pending line, and also I think I like the original 'enigmatic' look in his eyes better than the revised 'sychophantic' look in his eyes. The male character in the song does seem enigmatic, but not really the type to be sychophantic. Jeff

Two questions: 1) Is it autobiographical? I can't really see that since you are so supportive in his musical endeavors. 2) Did Rob have any of Ian's teen angst songs in mind when he wrote this?
Hi Jeff , thanks for your interesting comments and questions Rob knows all of Tulls back catalogue and often admits to being influenced by Ians writing. This song was inspired by reading about how Ian left home with only a overcoat to become a musician. He may indeed have had a 1000 mothers in mind when writing this . I know he likes it. Musically though he cites pied piper as an influence in this song
I will ask him more about it when I speak to him
The song is not auto biographical. I asked Rob some time ago why he used obscene ..he said he was trying to convey what some people may believe about the values of pop stars eg self centred and money grabbing emphasis on exploitation of teenagers ...pied piper
Thanks for your insightful comments regarding what did you notice . I too like to consider which Tull songs may have influenced Rob. The song however is autobiographical written specifically for Robs girlfriend
Neverless the words below really remind me of Ians writing
But when you wane without a sign A rising tide invades my mind
The thoughts that tumble in the storm When you depart I am Left forlorn
In his most current version of this tune he has dropped Sychophantic and has replaced it once more with enigmatic
He has retained unlocked a hidden quality
He has replaced idily lingering and is undecided about a few other lines including wending and pending. I agree he should change it

Thanks for your support Pat. I am glad you enjoy Robs songs. He has this muse inside of him that is burning away.... I just want to expose his music to whoever might appreciate it I couldn't agree more, as a 'failed' musician I can really appreciate the quality in perseverance and in Rob's work it shows that he loves it by sticking with it. Hat's off to you for being such a good promoter and also to Jeff, who I think has been a great positive 'critic' from the word go. I have a cousin who has her own band and she also shows that same level of drive and determination. I should post a couple of her things here but she doesn't have the 'tull' connection othert than via me and that's probably a little too tenuous

Rob has been working on What did you notice for some time. Here is his completed version uploaded onto his Tube channel
Hope you have enjoy, as always comments very much appreciated
I was wandering, I was wavering, You didn't know- a thing about me. You approached me with a diplomatic look in your eye, You must have seen something in me...
You were whispering, I was wending, In the hope that your affection would be pending, I was standing with an enigmatic look in my eye. You must have noticed it in me. Saw it as a quality...
You saw it in me. Saw something in me. Which people have seldom noticed before I was beginning to wonder who I was waiting for
You won't believe me... My mind deceives me, And each time I rewaken I'm sure, That my knowledge of your outline is resultant of nothing more- Than imagination...
I was loitering, I was lingering, Stood on the sidelines like I all too often do, I was distant with the collar of my jacket turned up so high... But my pretension didn't phase you, Maybe it served to entertained you.
You saw it in me. Saw something in me. Which people have seldom noticed before I was beginning to wonder who I was waiting for
You won't believe me... My mind deceives me, And each time I rewaken I'm sure, That my knowledge of your outline is resultant of nothing more- Than imagination...
I lay my heart for all to see, A trait that's none too wise in me I sense the words which leave your lips, In tender touches, fingertips. But when you wane without a sign A rising tide invades my mind, And thoughts that tumble in the storm, When you depart I'm left forlorn...

Here is Come Home for tea recently uploaded on Robs site. This is another song which Rob has been working on for some time.
He's not the boy, They had anticipated. He's ludicrously coy and fearful of loutish behaviour. So he fled the football pitch, And ran to a nearby ditch, And he laid himself down. And he waited there in the vain hope that the girl of his dreams would come, But she never came.
Meanwhile his family howl in horror, As he pursues his sunlit dare, And they can dance around indignantly, But this boy simply couldn't care.
His family suspect the worst, But they've got no way of knowing, And no earthly way of showing, So inevitably- they're gonna keep it to themselves.
He's not the boy She had always imagined, Would dance in her dreams and infiltrate her thoughts in the night time. But as he cycles in the dark, And swiftly passes by, She wonders if he'll ever dare to look her in the eye, But he never does. (He never does)
Meanwhile his family howl in horror, As he pursues his sunlit dare, And they can dance around indignantly, But this boy simply couldn't care.
His family suspect the worst, But they've got no way of knowing, And no earthly way of showing, So inevitably- they're gonna keep it to themselves.
So they hang their heads in shame, Conceal their true disdain,
Instead of confrontation, They just turn and walk away.
They hang their heads in shame, Like flowers in the rain, Instead of confrontation, They repeat this tired refrain.
(Singing)
Why can't he just come home for tea?

Preston, I haven't commented before as I am not a good musical reviewer though I've been listening and enjoying every issued song Rob played and you posted here for our pleasure. Actually these both new renditions of two great Rob's songs, IMO, have been perfectly rounded off. I liked them very much. Good luck with the future CD.

A new tune composed in the spirit and inspired by Tull gems such as Nursie , slipstream and cheap day return
I'm Glad (That Our Paths Dared To Meet)
A vexing vision in a piano shop, You were tinkling elegant ivory keys. I snatched a glance but was forced to stop, Whisked away on an untimely January breeze.
I feign excitement, though my main concern, Is to slow your compulsion to leave...
'Cause I'm glad that our paths dared to meet

A while ago I posted clarity a work in progress song of Robs. He has recently completed it and altered it somewhat. anty feedback appreciated on these latest tunes. If you like Robs music it would be great if you could subscribe to his you tube channel
Am I free now or was I free? Regardless of the time or place, I stray so easily. But when this fog lifts up and covers me, I know it's you who can restore my visibility.
And now it's clear, I want you near,
Since I met you my head has not been right...
But that's alright! Cos you've enhanced my sight, Gone is my fright, Replaced by light, So clear and so bright...
When our paths crossed how could we know? What would ensue, what would follow. I was convinced I'd fade or flee, But then you came and showed me and you gave me clarity.
And now it's clear, I want you near,
Since I met you my head has not been right...
But that's alright! Cos you've enhanced my sight, Gone is my fright, Replaced by light -
But no one ever warned me- of your untold power, For that would be exposing the brightest light of ours, Extinguised when you ask me for stories of my day... And I have nothing to say...
And now it's clear, I want you near, Since I met you my head has not been right... But that's alright.

Thanks for your post about I am glad.I think this short little ditty really shows Robs love of Tull ,he admits that this short song was totally inspired by the acoustic songs of Ian in the Aqualung era . Anyway TM glad you enjoyed it wonder what others think I think its a tad too short but Rob intended it that way

Preston,
There's something about the occasional short song - you know, the ones that have you longing for more.
I haven't been able to watch/listen to all Robs songs, but the ones that I have I've noticed are all live - one take - with no overdubs.
Not to take anything away from his live versions, but I could picture a 2nd guitar on that track, which of course Tull did with many of their short acoustic pieces. I think that would be a nice touch.

Preston,
Nice. I like the brevity of the song, maybe it could do with another verse, but if it was coupled with other songs in an album format, I think it would present a point of focus, more than just an interlude. That's what i think some of ian's short songs provide in places, particulalry on Aqualung, and even to some extenet salamander and byed-eyed on TOTRNR.
Like TM i'd be interetsed to hear a few of Rob's songs in a more 'produced' format. I think they deserve it.

I too would like to see Robs songs in a more produced format . For the meantime I tend to look upon these first take live performances as a sort of sketch book of his ideas. His tune What did you notice has just been entered into the April 2011 Mystonic Records Original Music Contest . You can check out the entries at this link www.youtube.com/video_response_view_all?v=PkuQcucLjbAIf you feel inclined please vote for Robs entry

One part reminded me of another song but I couldn't put my finger on it.

Here is the final version of Robs tune He will fall . I posted a work in progress first take some weeks back He has been working on this dark tune for sometime Hope you enjoy it
Listening to nothing and no one at all, He will rise but then he will fall, And when he falls no one will care, 'Cause after all, they're only- Superficially there...
And as for her, her role in it all, Will she be there on the day that he falls? And will she greet him with open arms? Or instead revealing a note from her palm. A list of his follies, a list of his ills, When given a second chance make sure it's fulfilled

Here is a new tune written and completed today . Rob is in a rich vein of songwriting at themoment with about another six work in progress tunes being played constantly. This one however just like I am glad was conceived and arrived within a day
According to plan
Well it will try to cage you, Endeavour to ensnare you with its charm, It can be very hard. It will supply the fiction, And cause a contradiction in your heart.
But now this plague has been and gone, It's safe to say I'm moving on. Please hear me out this won't take long.
Moving on, Moving on, Moving on. Moving on, Can you see me moving on?
I finally know who I am. Hope all goes according to plan. According To Plan.
It's a cruel creature, It will render you speechless if it can. Your friends will deem you distant, Because the pulls persistent and it's harsh.
But now this plague has been and gone, It's safe to say I'm moving on. Please here me out this is my song.
Moving on, Moving on, Moving on. Moving on, Can you see me moving on?
I finally know who I am. Hope all goes according to plan.
Moving on, Moving on, Moving on. Moving on, Evidently moving on.
I finally know who I am. Hope all goes according to plan.
According To Plan.

Preston Good to see/hear more of Rob's work That sounds good. I think that track could work on a lot of levels , simple 'one man' acoustic to full on electric band. I'm looking forward to the day I can get my hands on a studio produced version of Rob's work.
