Here is a wonderful review of Home Truths written by the boards very own Quiz which appeared on Amazon
Thanks
Home Truths (MP3 Download) I've heard Rob's work on and off now for a couple of years now and it's been great to hear how his style, vocals, Lyric writing and composition have changed, developed and firmed up, home truths sets that out for the listener in a way that takes you on the same journey, it is a really nice album that is both personal and accessible.
Well worth getting, and a really easy album to enjoy. His collaboration with his brother make this a pretty accomplished piece of work, and whilst some influences can be heard, it's no pastiche or copy, it's pretty damned good.

That is really excellent, I love Pat's review of Rob's debut CD....Pat has got good writing chops.... it sounds like it was written by a professional critic! I've been busy and very tired lately (computer fatigue), but I am taking a trip with my son to Connecticut this weekend for a retreat that is required by his Hebrew school, so I will have several hours of car time, and the Home Truths disc will be spinning on the CD player several times, with my review to follow. I'm looking forward to digging in to this! Jeff

Here is a new tune written and completed today . Rob is in a rich vein of songwriting at themoment with about another six work in progress tunes being played constantly. This one however just like I am glad was conceived and arrived within a day According to plan Well it will try to cage you, Endeavour to ensnare you with its charm, It can be very hard. It will supply the fiction, And cause a contradiction in your heart. But now this plague has been and gone, It's safe to say I'm moving on. Please hear me out this won't take long. Moving on, Moving on, Moving on. Moving on, Can you see me moving on? I finally know who I am. Hope all goes according to plan. According To Plan. It's a cruel creature, It will render you speechless if it can. Your friends will deem you distant, Because the pulls persistent and it's harsh. But now this plague has been and gone, It's safe to say I'm moving on. Please here me out this is my song. Moving on, Moving on, Moving on. Moving on, Can you see me moving on? I finally know who I am. Hope all goes according to plan. Moving on, Moving on, Moving on. Moving on, Evidently moving on. I finally know who I am. Hope all goes according to plan. According To Plan. So, is this song about a guy whose heart has been broken, and who is finally able to get over the girl and "move on"? It seems to me that the "it" in the song -- which he also refers to as a plague -- is the destructive power that love can have when a relationship ends. Jeff

I don't own a car -- that's far too costly and problematic in New York City, and not usually needed -- but from time to time I borrow my mother's car, which has a great stereo system.
These past few weekends we've had several family trips, so I've had the car and have been able to listen to Rob's new CD three times through, and I liked it more and more each time. My wife also really enjoyed it -- she's a fan of several Britpop groups which seem to be an influence on Rob, particularly Blur. Even my nine year old son was getting into it (he asked me to replay Where Did You Go, and one or two others)!
I've scrolled through this thread from the beginning to review the lyrics and refresh my memory as to which ones from the album I've already commented on, and in so doing, I was stunned at how many other songs he has. Probably another two albums' worth I would say.
My review on Amazon will follow, in the next day or so.
Jeff

This song is about many things Jeff .. it has a number of different meanings and levels ... its not specifically about the break up of a relationship though, although it can easily be interpreted as such .......in essence though it is about finding oneself again after a period of adversity
Looking forward to reading your review Jeff

Here is my review of Rob's album Home Truths, which I have submitted to Amazon (U.S.) for processing, and should be published there in the next day or two. I'd like to add the review to Amazon U.K., but I'm not sure whether it will be automatically posted there at the same time it is posted on Amazon U.S., or if I need to do it separately.
I really enjoyed listening to Rob's CD several times during the past week....it grew on me each time, and my wife loved it too!
-----------------------
5.0 out of 5 stars
An auspicious debut, November 29, 2011 By Jhenstern - See all my reviews. This review is from: Home Truths (Audio CD) Home Truths is a collection of sparkling acoustic ballads and pop-rock from Robert Lloyd, a promising young singer-songwriter from the northwest of England. Most of the songs on this debut offering are psychological studies of boy-girl relationships, but there is nothing formulaic or trite about the lyrics or music here. Each of these gems have meanings that are not always readily apparent, yet capable of varying interpretations, and are matched to a pleasing mix of lilting vocals and acoustic strumming and fingerpicking influenced mainly by The Beatles and nineties Britpop bands, such as, in particular, Blur. Yet Rob's songs are fresh and unique, delivering many unexpected twists and turns, and his words keep you thinking, displaying a rare insight, intelligence and sensitivity that belie his youth. He's only twenty.
The record is bookended nicely by the melodius I'm Glad, which briefly introduces both artist and album, and is cleverly reprised with the capper, That Our Paths Dared To Meet. Rob's brother Alun provides harmonious backing vocals and smooth electric bass on these and other songs, which though mostly acoustic, are periodically punctuated by jangly electric guitar and a drum machine. This, combined with the shifts in tempo from song to song, mixes things up nicely. Variety abounds.
The material here is uniformly strong from start to finish -- it's difficult to really isolate any of them as standouts -- but Sailed Away, According to Plan, Where Did You Go? and Keep Your Receipt shine most brightly....to me, that is. Everyone will have their favorites.
Rob has been penning songs prolifically for the past several years now, so there's a lot more in the hopper. And I've got a feeling that we will be hearing much more of this talented young artist in the future.
Highly recommended.
Jeff

Its Fine !
I whispered her name In an unfamiliar place The crowd all moved as one And pretended to have fun Lets get out of here It only makes us sad It aggravates our senses and drives our spirits mad But there is something pressing I will only say it once It might be hard to fathom But here I go I can’t stay here by your side forever my love It’s something that we both ignore Its something we both know And I don’t want to compromise the closing of our time I know this love of ours can’t last But right now it’s fine I ran with the wind But her mark remained on everything There was no exiting applause Just a welcoming side door So I got out of there It was making me sad It pressurised my senses and drove my spirit mad But there was something pressing I only said it once She found it hard to fathom But I went on I can’t stay here by your side forever my love It’s something that we don’t ignore It’s something that we both know And I don’t want to compromise the closing of our time
I know this love of ours can’t last But right now it’s fine I cant stay here by your side forever my love Its something we can’t ignore Its something we both know And I don’t want to compromise the closing of our time I hope this love of ours can last Cos right now it’s fine right now it’s fine

Here is a work in progress tune called Clouds
Clouds
Time spent with you it seems to go so fast We cling to hours cling to seconds but they never last Now we are apart the time it crawls so slow So like two clouds in the sky let us wait for the wind to blow Go we must Go our time is now And I don’t care we will work it out somehow And we won’t ever admit we have gone to far Cos I know what this does to you and you know full well what the Implications of this are
Here is Robs work in progress demo of the same tune
Any feedback appreciated

Were we Closer ?
The room is icy cold I watch my world unfold But you are yet to stir I leave without a word And then the moment hits me like a bolt The dreaded feeling that I have come to know Were we closer when we were miles apart Were we closer when we were miles apart I sense a monster Its subtle but its dark
Were we closer when we were miles apart Apart, apart ,apart

Guess many may emphathise with this next song about people who take all but give nothing in return. It s called keep your receipt In Rob's words Me playing 'Keep Your Receipt', one of my own songs. Hope you like it- please rate and leave comments. Nice one. Words & Music By Rob Davies Lyrics- She's the girl everyone says they like, but no one really knows... Kind of girl who seems to believe that- on trees money grows. Just because of Daddy's wealth, she thinks she's got it made, One would feel just to look on her face that- you ought to pay. And she's rather alarming, Yes she's really a treat! Dare you to converse with her Just expect a receipt! KEEP YOUR RECEIPT Don't attempt to befriend her- you will quickly get bored, If your hair isn't perfect- she'll look appalled, A penchant for designer- no high street for her, It's so hard to define her- without struggling for words. But she's oh so alarming, Yes she's really a treat! Dare you to converse with her Just expect a receipt! I can't be doing with your shallow ways, You've left me with a terrible malaise, And now I find it hard to get to sleep, For fear I'll be offered a receipt. But she's oh so alarming, Yes she's really a treat! Dare you to converse with her, Just expect a receipt! Oh she's really alarming, Yes she's really a treat! Dare you to converse with her, Just expect a receipt I am late on this thread, but I started to go through some of these songs by Rob..my impression has been been excellent!!! I enjoyed this song. I will get to others. Rob thanks for giving me some new music to listen too!!

I purchased the Rob's songs from Amazon the other day, and finally got to listen to the entire disks (songs). I totally enjoyed the 13 tracks!! I like how Rob's lyrics are thoughtful and the tell experiences that we have all gone through. He is a very good acoustic guitar player, and storyteller.

Here is a work in progress version of Whispers From An Empty Room Robert Lloyd All rights reserved copyright 2012
captured on a very cheap camera with settings all wrong hence poor quality video
Lyrics She went away She had no obligation to stay Her decision was made She severed all ties along the way But when she makes her mind up then its made
I thought I knew her well enough to say 'Dont go away ,Youll regret it some day' Dont escape or evade I have got something to say You entered my life took me by suprise forgot all of my other ties And If you fly I dont know how I will survive Keeps me awake at night And now I am hearing whispers from an empty room And now I am hearing whispers from an empty room And now I am hearing whispers from an empty room And now I am hearing whispers

Cool tune, you're just getting better and better you miserable sod. Thanks once again, for sharing your music with us. And since you were kind enough to show us a work in progress, I'd like to do the same so I'm posting a new one in 'my' thread. I had wanted to run it by you guys to see what the consensus was on it. I think I like it, but I'm not certain. In any event, great stuff brother.

I like the lines "I ran with the wind, but her mark remained on everything, there was not exiting applause, just a welcoming side door." I really like the sensitivity of Rob's songwriting. It's bold for a male to admit to such sentimental feelings and vulnerability. It's one of the things I like most about Ian's songwriting too. The male characters in his songs, and in Rob's songs, are not afraid to admit that they are crushed, depressed, devastated and tearful by the ending of a relationship (e.g., Witch's Promise, Teacher, Circular Breathing, etc.). That's an honest and true reflection of how many guys feel, but are afraid to admit. Jeff
