In high school I had teacher accuse me of having me have my sister write a paper on Thick As A Brick. This was the same sister that did get me interested in Tull, but she did not write the paper. She was 4 years old then I was and was in college at the time. I spent an entire weekend at home (which was un heard of for me, prime party time) to write a paper for school. That happened maybe two three times in all of high school for me. However I wrote a screen play for TAAB and the teacher gave an F because he said it was not my work and then that started a little war. He eventually lost and I ended getting a much netter grade an A and pissed him off. It was one the very few papers I ever wrote , that I totally enjoyed writing, I just wished that I still had it.

That's too bad you don't have it. Teacher's are an interesting bunch.

My wife is a teacher. Principles, teachers, students and the students parents are all interesting. My wife had a student who would stick his fingers down in throat in class to make himself throw-up. FWIW he was Pakistani.

My wife works in one of the top school systems in the country. Montgomery County Maryland. The police were called to handcuff an out of control kindergarten student.

95% of teachers are hard working and under appreciated Max, unfortunately there are always some in any work group that spoil it for others...Please I did not mean that as swipe on your wife or other hard working teachers. I meant as a dig on the teacher who accused me of plagiarism. I apologize to you if you took that the wrong way

Derek, I did not take what you said as a swipe against teachers. I've heard loads of stories about incompetent teachers and principles.

I would be willing to bet Max heard a lot of the stories from his wife. She sees it first-hand.

Speaking of which...I'm certified in high school English and LBD (learning and behavior disorders, all ages) and right now I've got a long-term sub job for a teacher who had an operation. I've got some LD and some BD and some who are both. The BD class is, let me say, a challenge, but a welcome one. It's much easier for me to deal with bad behavior from kids with pathologies. It's easier to think of it in a sort of clinical way, if you know what I mean.
This is my third long-term sub job and the one I've liked best and felt I was doing the best job with. I've done a whole lot more observation of other teachers. I'd say I have never seen a lazy teacher - I just don't think there is any way TO be lazy, even if you just do the very barebones of the job. Although there is certainly comparitive laziness - teachers who haven't kept up with their field, or who give out worksheets every day or whatever. But I certainly have seen a whole wide variation in quality! You can work really really hard and still be a terrible teacher.

No dark sarcasm in the classroom...
