Maartin is currently rehearsing for a special concert this Friday, May 14th, at Birmingham Town Hall, where he will be performing the music of the late legendary singer/songwriter/guitarist, John Martyn. The concert will feature many special guests including, among others, renowned bassist Danny Thompson, folk-rock singer Beth Orton, and keyboardist, Foss Patterson (didn't he record with Tull on the Catfish album?) I loved him in Tull, because he was such a roguish character who fit right in with the band, and augmented the Tull humor and antics. Plus, some of the material that he and Peggy did back in those days was just amazing. That was one of my favorite periods of Tull! Jeff

Jeff That "oh no not another 20 years of Jethro Tull" lineup was great. Saw them in Nürnberg Out in the Green festival.

He and Pegg just clicked so well together. That was a very fun line-up. And hello! How have you been? Nice to see you back, and as you can see this site is growing by the day. It's very exciting to watch! Jeff

In a month there will be no night at all. I loved the acoustic section of the gig, especially "Fat Man".

Maart was kind enough to allow The Jethro Tull Board to make a video of his exquisite instrumental, Sand Dancer. It is based on a Macedonian folk dance and is from Maart's solo album, OX15. It also appeared on a free gift compilation disc distributed to subscribers of A New Day some 12-15 years ago, or thereabouts. Maart's OX15 album -- which unfortunately is out of print -- features guest appearances by Ian Anderson, Gerry Conway and various members of Fairport Convention. Maart plays piano on this one, and is joined by Anna Frazer on cello and Simon Mayor on mandolin. I think you'll agree that this is really beautiful: For more information on Maart, visit his website at: www.maartinallcock.com/Jeff

We all have fond memories of the roguish Maartin Allcock, one of the most talented, likeable and versatile musicians ever to play in Tull and Fairport, who I was very sorry to see depart from both bands.
So, I made this video of 'Whenever We See The Dark', the first song Maart ever wrote, which appears on his solo album OX15, and features Ian guesting on flute, and Gerry Conway on drums. Maart plays electric guitar and bass, and sings real nice....and it happens to be a really good song!

Jeff Nice song and nice video, I have to agree i miss Maart in Tull, I would like to think that there would have always been room in a band like Tull for someone of Maart's talents.

I saw Maartin or Martin during '89 Rock Island tour and '91 Catfish tour. He can play so many instruments, I think Ian was feeling odd about his stage presence. Maybe Martin was too talented?

Looks like a great show! There will probably be some great and creative interpretations of already good music. We will have to keep an eye on youtube to see if anyone uploads them performing--particularly Tull songs

Here is a video I put together for the JTB youtube channel of a great instrumental tune from Martin Allcock's debut album MAART. The title Minosegi Boro means 'quality wine' in Hungarian, and the piece incorporates elements of Hungarian folk or dance music.
Martin plays all the instruments on this very Tull-ish sounding track.
I've always thought that he was the perfect match for Tull, not only because of his incredible musical versatility (he plays pretty much everything), but also because he was such a roguish character on stage. I was sorry to see him go.
