Some of you may remember the old television game show, What's My Line?, where a panel has to guess a contestant's line of work by asking the contestant ten yes or no questions. I thought we might try that with Tull.
So here goes, I'm thinking of a specific occupation held by a character in a Tull song. The board has 10 questions, but they must be yes or no questions, to guess what it is. The board wins if they guess the occupation at any time up to, or after, the tenth question, but only three attempts will be permitted following the last question.
Would anyone like to ask the first question?
Jeff

Would it be some sort of office work? No, it's not office work.....though there could be a little incidental paper work I suppose. 9 questions left. Jeff

Can you tell us if the person is male or female without it counting as a question? Dan I would say no, that would have to count as a question, because it would narrow it down by 50%. Would you like to ask that as a question? Jeff

OK. That rules out Pussy Willow's typing pool. (For some odd reason that one's been playing in my head today.) Hmmmmm.

I'll cut right to the chase....Are you a steel monkey? No, it's not steelmonkey. 8 questions left. Jeff P.S. Probably better to ask probative questions at this early stage so as not to "waste" a question.

Okay, so let's have a midway recap..... The person does not work in an office, but may prepare some incidental paperwork. Q #1 The person interacts with customers in a legal profession. Q#3 and #5 The person is NOT a steel monkey. Q#2 The person is NOT a good enough reason for a party. Q#4 I'm going to have to make my next five questions good ones. I made this challenging by making the two WAG's.

Would you like to ask that as a question? Jeff I would have to argue, counselor, that your 'What's My Line' premise wouldn't have needed that to be asked as a question because , although the panelists were blindfolded, they could determine the sex by listening to the subjects voices. However, I will play along and have a person in mind, but will wait until the end. So...Are you female?

I would have asked this question....Is your job typically performed by females? (I also have a person in mind, but will play along)

I phrased it like that because Jeff is one. Dan

However, I will play along and have a person in mind, but will wait until the end. So...Are you female? I knew you would make that argument Dan, and I did consider it, but here's the difference. On What's My Line, there was an infinite number of possible occupations, whereas here there is a much more limited set of possibilities. So if the male/female question did not count, it would make the game too easy. But anyway, the person in question is definitely a male. 4 questions left. Jeff

Where is TM when you need him? (No that's not an official question!!) I thought you were on to him, so I didn't want to waste a question on you! And I thought you nailed it early with Steel Monkey. You're last question I was thinking of also. So I'll be interested to see the answer.
