The Tull Board's Chat Section

Go ahead - blather with the best of them...
StanDup Avatar
StanDup: Well, if you eliminate my brothers, I was definitely the biggest Tull fan in my neighborhood. We turned all of our friends on to Tull (and other bands). The only band that my friends turned me on to was Lynyrd Skynyrd. Jun 7, 2015 19:24:45 GMT -5
TM Avatar
TM: I always like Skynyrd. They were my favorite of the southern rock bands. Jun 9, 2015 15:13:42 GMT -5 *
Michael Crowe Avatar
Michael Crowe: And now I read where the Alabama Shakes are the number one Southern Rock act. There's something I'm missing these days I guess. I never really noticed a generation gap until just the last five years or so. I just don't get it anymore. Jun 10, 2015 0:20:40 GMT -5
Michael Crowe Avatar
Michael Crowe: We need a future tense word. We have past: I "was" there. Present: I "am" there, or he "is" there. But to express future tense we need two words, ex: I "will be" there, etc. Just an observation. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated. Jun 11, 2015 14:05:50 GMT -5
TM Avatar
TM: I "be" there. Jun 12, 2015 15:08:40 GMT -5
Michael Crowe Avatar
Michael Crowe: Thanks, your suggestion will be reviewed by the Webster board of erectors. However, your entry is still considered present tense in these woods (Alabama, if you recall), and bad grammer otherwise. Perhaps a new word - like, I "homoh" there. Jun 12, 2015 22:57:48 GMT -5
StanDup Avatar
StanDup: Seen the A. Shakes on SNL.Not bad, but it didn't sound like southern rock. Many southern rock bands don't like that moniker. Ronnie used to march the stage with a confederate flag so, sorry remaining member but yer southern rock. Sweet Homo Alabama. Jun 12, 2015 23:24:49 GMT -5
Biggles Avatar
Biggles: A few years ago I read a review comparing Kings Of Leon to the Allman Brothers. What a stretch. The only thing they have in common is the south. A lot of great music coming out of the the south right now, but it aint southern rock. It's Americana. Jun 20, 2015 0:33:04 GMT -5
krusher Avatar
krusher: If you want to hear the best southern rock band out right now check out Blackberry Smoke. Without a doubt the best of old school southern boogie combined with great guitar hooks and meaningful lyrics I have heard in 30 years. Jun 23, 2015 1:54:00 GMT -5
Biggles Avatar
Biggles: Yes krusher, Blackberry Smoke... I've watched their VH1 vid. A very authentic southern rock band. Yes TM, digging the 'two camps' banner. Jun 25, 2015 20:35:36 GMT -5
Morthoron Avatar
Morthoron: R.I.P. Chris Squire of Yes. Damn great bassist! Jun 28, 2015 12:43:08 GMT -5
Michael Crowe Avatar
Michael Crowe: What is Americana Biggs? The last "Americana" show I saw on tv (from Nashville) featured Richard Thompson. Leon Wilkerson of Skynyrd called their music progressive. I think labels are dead. Jun 30, 2015 2:04:16 GMT -5
Biggles Avatar
Biggles: I don't mind labels. Example, two of the biggest labels going are liberal and conservative so I don't think they're dead. For me, Americana is a blend of eclectic music (not mainstream) born in America. I disagree w/ Leon and consider RT Brit-folk. Jul 1, 2015 20:45:45 GMT -5 *
Michael Crowe Avatar
Michael Crowe: I was speaking of music labeling in particular - it's all cross-over. Americana seems to take in anything semi acoustic with a hint of country. Yeah I disagreed w/Leon. Not sure where RT belongs. Jul 2, 2015 0:32:02 GMT -5
Biggles Avatar
Biggles: Fair enough, music labeling. First time I heard John Prine, Townes Van Zandt I didn't know how to describe their music. Then I saw a post soliciting "Americana songwriters like JP and TVZ etc." I made sense to me. Jul 2, 2015 20:53:28 GMT -5
Morthoron Avatar
Morthoron: It doesn't get more "Americana" than The Band, particularly their self-titled album and Music from the Big Pink. Jul 3, 2015 6:16:26 GMT -5
Biggles Avatar
Biggles: Funny you should mention that Mothoron. StandUp texted me nearly the same comment the other day. Jul 3, 2015 20:17:47 GMT -5
