I saw Martin and Willy twice that year. Once at the Stone Pony and once at BB King's in NYC. I enjoyed the show too, but I was expecting to see Martin in a more prominent role. I guess he just prefers to play 2nd fiddle.

It turns out that I know sunnyjim, he's an old Tull friend of mine, a social worker from Boston, and a helluva nice guy. He just sent me a message saying that he liked my 9/11 story and that he used to have a friend in NYC named Jeff who was an attorney, and then when I noticed his name was Russell, I immediately knew who he was! I saw quite a few shows with Russell in the Boston and New York area for six or seven years in the nineties, and I believe a convention or two as well. But then he seemingly dropped off the face of the earth, I didn't see him at any more shows and fell out of touch with him. I tried contacting him and asking Ken Green if he had heard from him, but to no avail. I figured (correctly, as it turns out) that he had become disillusioned with Tull, but who can really blame him with the interminable oldies/greatest hits tours, the croaking vocals, the orchestral crap, the sudden and pointless firings of beloved band members, the lack of any new material, the milking of the prior catalogue and Ian's tendency on occasion to berate his fans. I think that he was beginning to feel this way toward the late nineties when I lost contact with him. I think there's been a misunderstanding concerning his initial posts, which were harshly critical of Ian and Tull. As everyone knows, that sort of thing is perfectly acceptable here, freedom of speech reigns supreme, and there's not much that would be out of bounds in that regard. However, I think Paul would like to view the board primarily as a place to meet other Tull fans and make new friends, a place where we emphasize humor and friendship, and once that friendship is established, then it's bombs away, say whatever the fuck you like, really. The reason for that is because there have been times on other forums where trolls would appear out of nowhere and start to stir up trouble, not only attacking the band, but also attacking people who defended the band, and that led to arguments and nastiness. So I think Paul's ears are attuned to harsh invective when it comes from a newbie who we don't know yet, and I can understand where he is coming from. Having said that, let me tell you, Paul, you've got nothing to worry about with Russell, he's a terrific guy who I am very glad to become reacquainted with! Jeff I'm glad you cleared that up Jeff and now I can feel bad for my treatment of him! Actually I sent him a PM earlier today and I hope he understands. I look forward to him being part of the board.

Also it might be true that Martin might have a harder time filling halls with 1500 seats No doubt he would have to utilize Jethro Tull's name and be pretty creative in order to do it. But then again, I don't think Ian sells out 1,500 seaters all the time.

Jeff Here's a pic of a real weird-looking me, hoisting a cold one with new Jethro Tull Board member "sunnyjim" (Russell), and Vicky Grin before she became a Grin. This was at a Boston pub, after one of the three Orpheum shows in 1992, for the ALLM tour. The photo was taken right after we had met Dave Pegg, and I seem to remember that it was Peggy who took it for us! Jeff
