I listened to this one and the one with our Ian, both excellent. He's got a very similar style, and the same kind of style of flute-stuttering or flute-grunting that was invented by Roland Kirk. His flute playing produces a very rich sound. I don't know much about him, but from what I have read so far it does not seem as though he's ever played in a rock band, which is a little surprising, because I think he plays the instrument in a very rock style, much like IA. I'm going to read and listen further before framing some questions. Jeff

I don't generally like hearing other Flute players who sound like Ian because for me that sound is Ian Anderson but this guy and his amazing use of harmonics is pushing the style a little beyond what Ian has done with it. Fair play to him I say.

Well that's a question we can ask him!

Jumping between threads here. i saw the Barbican Flutewise gig, and watching ian Clarke play made the hair stand up on the back of neck like it used to when i saw Tull back in the dim and distant. It was pretty amazing stuff and made me long for the inevitable Ian A/Ian C collaboration. It came and it was good, mainly because Ian C was really pushing it I think. I did hope that the experience would have driven ian A onto some new direction, focussing more on good innovative music rather than "Rupi' styled songs. Alas, it appears it was not to be but I still live in hope!

Divinities was a great achievement for Ian and I adore his playing on that album but the rock style Flute playing we all loved was toned down in favour of the more Classical/squeaky clean tone since Divinities. As you say Quizz, yer man IC reminded you of the old days. If you listen to Ian's Flute playing today its technically perfect but I find it a bit boring. I know Ian is a respected Flute player and perhaps he has a need to be on par with his contemporaries but I prefer the old raw playing that was Anderson's trademark.

While I like Divinities I much prefer his darker sound when it comes to Tull music. Besides I don't think IA is capable of getting that super clean sound of a Galway or even this guy
