Alright, the U.S. tour is almost upon us, so who is going to what shows and where? Although I didn't think this would happen, I am pretty excited about it! Got great tickets for two shows, Jones Beach and Holmdale, in the first 10 rows, center-stage, for both.
The set list and vocals seem much improved from the lackluster UK shows. Certain songs that needed to be dropped were dropped, and replaced by better selections, making for a more balanced and varied set. Plus they just seem to be playing better, and Ian seems to be singing better, ever since the U.K. tour ended. Let's hope that continues when Tull reach the states.
Looking forward to this! Taking wifey to Jones Beach; we will be going with my long-term Tull mate Argentinian Mike -- Icecreamman as he is known here -- and his brother, Alan. There will be pre- and post-gig parties hosted by the NYC Jethro Tull Meet-up Group, and also by our friend Barry G, as is his custom and wont.
For Holmdale, I will be going with my other long-term Tull mate, Rob, the Mothermonkey1. We will be arriving and meeting, for the first time ever, our founder TM. Multiple beers and laughs are in the offing, as we toast the success of this board and plan for its future growth and development.
We are also supposed to be distributing flyers which Paul is going to make up for the further promotion of this board, but just in case he is too tired from his motorcycle trip in Lake George, I will be bringing a leather whip along!

I will be at the June 4th Boca Raton show. It's my birthday so I have a couple of friends going with me and we'll have dinner before the show. I did have 4th row center until they changed venues from Miami to Boca and it bumped me back to 7th row. I have been thinking about upgrading but might stay put since I am in job transition!

Looking forward to hearing your comments and opinions on the first date that kicks off the U.S. Tour! What a great way to spend your Birthday! Enjoy your meal, your company and the show and hopefully you'll give us a 'heads up' on what we can expect from the 'boys' on the current trip. Dan

Jeff Jeff, Feeling a little jealous that I can't be there for the Holmdale Show. That sounds like a lot of fun. Would have loved to have been there, drunk and embarassing myself like the last show. I had to be mellow when I first met Paul as I had my daughter with me. And if Rob happens to finds himself with another signed I.A. baseball- I know an old barkeep that could use one for the mantlepiece. Dan

Jeff After this bike trip you're gonna need spikes for that whip. As Jeff stated, I'll be dragging my ass direct from Lake George down to Holmdel. I'm going with my wife and another couple, and I'll be meeting up with Billy Fingas, his wife and another couple as well as Nonfatman and his crew! I'm 15 rows back on Martin's side of the stage, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ian has one of his nights.

unfortunately i will be missing the shows this year due to being new at work and working on the dates of both jones beach and pnc. i am disappointed but i don't think that outdoor venues the size of jones beach due the band justice anymore. the'08 jones beach show (with peter frampton openning? )mix caused ian's voice to be lost in the wind, in fact i thought the volume coming from the speakers was too low anyway. with my luck though they'll play a completely different set then what they've played the last few tours with many surprises. oh well, what i'd really like to see is ian and martin playing acoustic shows in venues like bb kings or other smaller spaces. maybe someday. to all attendind enjoy!!

Thanks Don, and I have to say that I agree. An acoustic show suits Ian pretty well these days. I'm hoping he can still pull off the sheds.

I didn't go to any of the UK shows as I couldn't muster the enthusiasm after last year and any of the you tube I saw. I have worshipped Tull for as long as I can remenber and when most of my friends long since gave up on them I kept going. Many say that Ian Anderson should have given up long ago when the going was good but wonder why he kept singing don't get me wrong I am glad some people still get a kick out of seeing them but a lot think he should have hung up his flute years ago.

I don't think he should of called it a day but I do think he should have taken more rests, perhaps a year off every 3 or 4 and certainly cutting the touring down by half. But the money machine keeps turning and turning even though the wheels came off some years ago. What I don't get is many of the 'bitter' fans who agree with me and the direction since the mid 90's but still keep going to the bloody concerts.

I don't attend gigs as much as I used to, being one of those devotees who attended every gig in London and any others I could reasonably get to, but I still dip in ocassionally, in the hope that things change. And of course, Ian and the band do pull off an outstanding show every now and then, I'll cite the Festival Hall gig to name but one and the Divinites show to name another. Two I would not have wanted to miss. The trouble is consistancy, and that is the big problem I find, resting would help I am sure, not just with the voice problem but also with the set-list. I firmly believe that the constant touring and knocking out very similar set-lists every night must lead to some waning of interest in the music and the presentation. Add to that the lack of new published music and one or two of us old bitter gits have to dip our toies back in now and then to get a small, sometimes unsatisfying, but essential fix of Tull.

Sure Quizz.
Many of you guys are older than I and you've been with the band all the way. Catfish was the first new album that came out since I became a fan and it was also my first concert. My last Tull gig was 2001 and IA solo in 2003. However, I read the same old complaints about the shows today as I did then. The set list, the lack of new material and the voice. Yet every year the same moaners pay their money to Ian Anderson's ever expanding bank balance. I'm not saying its wrong to go but it is repetitive to keep going to the shows in order to complain about them.

Hey, I'm paying good money to complain! The thing is TM you are right! But why not give Tull a miss and give your money to a band/musician that delivers 100%.

the only thing consistent on recent tours is the setlist with almost 50% of the same songs played every time. why not due wind up instead of locomotive breath? minstrel instead of too old? ian's solo us tour last fall had a good mix of the usual suspects and the unexpected.

Don't get me wrong, the band (musically) are great and Martin is always a joy to watch but Ian should be paying us to sit through his singing. Why anyone would be willing to pay to listen to that is beyond me. And what annoys me most of all is Ian must know how bad it is. He'll certainly be having the last laugh on you guys who go to the show.

I used to attend loads of 'name' shows and none could edge out Tull for style or substance, but it is so different nowadays. I go infrequently to 'big' gigs these days and I ducked out of the last round of Tull gigs, for several reasons having already bought a ticket [which ended up being donated to a good cause]. My reasons were based around seeing the youtube stuff and thinking I didn't want to sit through it anymore, the reviews that I had read of the tour and being barracked for "not being a true Tull fan" a dissenter and some other personal criticisms and allegations. In truth, my way of thinking is much, much more aligned to yours but I could never advise a newbie or anyone else or not to go and see them, if only on the basis that if they get a kick out of it as half as much as I've had at times that's good enough reason. I do prefer to support smaller live acts though and will soon be pushing my Cousin's band from the south coast
