What does everyone think of this song? I realize some may regard it as horrible, but I kind of like it. It just may be the only rock song on the subject of menstruation!
I wonder if there is a particular story behind the song? And of all the female names, why Gladys?

I actually have heard this song for the first time just now--looking it up after reading your post.
There is a certain place in my heart for the outdated 80s Tull. This is certainly one of the most interesting (and most 80s) I have heard yet. The instrumental break is incredibly cool--full on 80s progressive rock.
I've always wanted to put together some acoustic redoings of Tulls more unknown 80s material--they contain great melodies and songwriting that most people dont give a chance because they're put off by the drum machines and outdated synths and whatnot.
This is a great find. Thanks!

I find it extremely amusing, as this is one of many songs that I first heard as a teenager and listened for several years before paying close attention or heading to the lyric book or internet to discover what its really about. The funniest part, perhaps, is how damn catchy the song is! It might have made it on an album if not for the silly lyrics. But I just found it all the more entertaining that these lyrics would be hidden in such a catchy song. Undressed to Kill is another good example. It was one of my favorite songs when I was about 12 years old. I had nearly no idea what it was a about, but I could tell it was naughty.

It's always great when you listen to a song again and again for so long and only afterwards do you finally get some key bit in the lyrics.
I guess that sort of thing happens a lot with Tull tunes, seeing as a lot of the songs are packed with meanings and weird sayings, words, and whatnot.

It just may be the only rock song on the subject of menstruation! You forget "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"!

I have been a huge Tull fan since about '88, and only now (2013) just heard "The Curse".
I am going to have to go with "horrible". 80's synth + menstruation lyrics... there's a reason there is no genre this matches. (And not the usual great reason for the best of Tull songs!)

I like it although there could have been a touch less reverb on the drums
