I have to go with this tour followed by Rubbing Elbows a close second. This show focused on what he does best.

Just how many different incarnations of IA tours have their been anyway? It's a little confusing, and I've kind of lost track. It was dubbed simply 'Ian Anderson' for Divinities. Then it was 'Rubbing Elbows with Ian Anderson' followed by 'Ian Anderson Plays the Orchestral Jethro Tull' and now 'Ian Anderson Plays the Acoustic Jethro Tull' and wasn't there also an 'Ian Anderson Plays the Christmas Jethro Tull' tour? The only thing there has been very little of lately is plain old Jethro Tull.

I have to go with this tour followed by Rubbing Elbows a close second. This show focused on what he does best. In terms of enjoyment, I think it's a tie between RE and the current tour. RE was great because it was so different, truly a unique kind of show that I don't believe any other rock performer has ever done. I saw three of those shows, and each one was different because there were different guest performers at each venue, different banter and jokes at each (many of which were absolutely filthy), and different questions from audience members. And there were two separate RE tours that were very different, in 2002 ( Rupi's Dance material was not played) and 2003 (Rupi's Dance material was played.) But if judged on purely musical terms, I would agree with you and go with the current tour, mainly on the strength of the musicianship, the sound quality and the improved vocals. Jeff

Jeff RE was very enjoyable, like I said I rated it a close second. Looking back I did have 1st row for that show and had a few minutes in the spotlight as I wildly kazoo-ed my way through Locomotive Breath while Ian sat there givimg me the "what the hell is he playing" look! I think I saw 3 RE shows too. And as enjoyable as they were due to the format and the guests, I think most of the guest DJ's detracted from the show. Besides that, Ian admitted that these shows were very challenging having to learn the guests music each day. I think the relaxed/simplified approach with the current tour has made a difference for Ian. It's got be less taxing and stressful. It's just all about the music.

Chea, I don't think you got the Rubbing Elbows shows over in Italy did you? But I think Ian did bring the idea back to the UK a year later. But don't feel so bad, because we here in the US don't get the Christmas shows.
