One of the many thread running through Jethro Tull's music is Beethoven. The intro to Locomotive Breath, beginning notes of Aqualung (Ian pointed out that they are based on the 5th Symphony's first four notes) and the solo in the Third Hoorah come to mind.
others?

Well John Evan's 1970 Piano solo "By Kind Permission Of" Quoted Ludwig Von's "Pathetique" liberally among others. in 77 and 78, Martin's solo's used to begin with a cool buzz saw edition of "The Double Violin Concerto". Let's not forget the 1976 and 77 band's abridged version of "the Ninth" (One of my favorites) so yes, Beethoven's all over Tull or visa-versa. Can anyone quote more?
I would like to find out what the classical piece that John Evan brakes into in the middle of the TAAB shows in 72. Done on the organ and bass. I actually heard it briefly on a classical radio station in full orchestra once long ago but never heard what that was titled or who it was by, always loved that one. Darin

Does anyone recall the keyboard solos from Eddie Jobson and Peter-John Vettese? Were there parts that came from Beethoven too? If you hear them both, they have some similar melodies at times.

Peter-John Vettesee's keyboard solo (He used that syth-axe) coupled with the drummer in the 1982 shows and he used a musical theme that he worked around, that ALL of you should know.!!!! Don Airy used that same theme in his taped solo used to open the concerts before Ian would come out with SFTW (heard on the Philidelphia 87 show) I haven't listened to Jobsons in a while but I don't remember it using the aformentioned theme..... ANYONE? ANYONE? ..........BUELLER?Darin

We can't forget to mention David (as she was called back then) Palmer, who may have added some beethoven influence to the band in his orchestral compositions.
