Martin and Ian are doing 2 different things and we can all decide which is Tull or not. My belief is that after a year or so they will reunite and put together a new album together. If not then we must look forward to the solo material which each has been wanting to record anyway. Even Martin has a new flautist/flutist in his band. Let us not worry over what could have been and enjoy what is coming. My party is just getting started with remixed and remastered albums. The live shows will be gravy from over 43 years of Jethro Tull. Let it Be.

Yep, there ya go! Obviously, Ian has pushed Martin further and further away from any decision making over the years. I support Martin 100 percent and can't wait to see this tour. This sounds rather exciting. This will be Martin Barre's Jethro Tull! Martin, Dave Pegg, Barrie Barlow and a new singer/flute player....hmmm.

I'm hesitant to state my opinion on this; I hope it doesn't offend people. Please don't hold it against me if you disagree!
While I like a great deal of Martin's playing, and have enjoyed his work with Tull over the years, I have always viewed his work as...well, let's use a culinary analogy: If Tull were a plate of pasta, Ian would be the spaghetti, and Martin would be the sauce. I would order a plate of spaghetti without the sauce, but I would not be as excited by a plate covered only with the sauce. The latter does not make a meal.
Ian's songwriting and musicial contributions are unqiue, in my opinion. Martin Barre's playing is excellent (particularly his acoustic material as seen on his solo albums), but it just doesn't define Tull for me.
I wish Martin good luck with his solo tour, but I can't get as excited about it as I would a new Ian Anderson tour.
Having said that, in an ideal world, I would prefer to see them onstage together in "proper" Tull.
Sorry, guys! (Covers head and waits for angry responses)

I totally understand where you are coming from.....but I am looking forward to seeing a Tull like performance which might contain the essence / feeling of Benefit era Tull.
I am also delighted that Martin is going to push on with his acoustic interpretations of Tull classics.I hope that this results in some sort of release

Nice interview, Martin can count me in as a guaranteed 'bum on seat'.
Nice to hear him positive and so determined on so many aspects of his future and tour. Also good to hear him hint at, without malice or bitterness, the position that seems to have developed within the band over recent years, I know that, like every other story, there are two sides to this particular tale.
Great to hear that there are new interpretations of less aired Tull songs in the offing as well as new work by Martin.
For me the nicest line was, "The image for Jethro Tull really is the guy on one leg. The silhouette is the image and it is a very good image. It has never been a problem in my mind because that image is vital to promoting the band." Seems to me that Martin never had a problem with group identity versus his own role.

(Covers head and waits for angry responses) No need to ever fear stating your opinions here, FTB, no matter what they are. On other forums you might find censorship or heckling of people who hold differing viewpoints, but never here! (In fact, this place was founded as a direct response to censorship and undue intereference from so called "moderators" elsewhere.) I understand the point you are making, that it's really Ian who defines Tull, and not being able to get as excited about a Martin Barre solo tour as an Ian Anderson solo tour. That makes perfect sense. But it will be interesting to see what happens. If Martin gets Barrie, Glenn and Dave Pegg together, and adds a guy like Jim Lockhart (the Horslips flutist) plus a vocalist who resembles Ian, then that would really be something to see! Have you heard the current version of Foreigner? They've got a new vocalist who sounds exactly like Lou Gramm, and the band sounds indistinguisible from the seventies line-up. If Martin puts together something like that, and they play a lot of seventies Tull that Tull themselves have ignored in recent years, then it might yet rival Ian's solo Brick tour. Welcome to The Jethro Tull Board! Have we gotten your first name yet? We do like to be on a first name basis around here (but it's okay if you prefer not). Looking forward to your future contributions here! Jeff

Thanks for posting that great new interview....you were the first to find it and it made for some great discussions here and on Facebook, where we re-posted it. I agree with your observation about the tone of some of Martin's responses seeming to be a little resentful. Thanks also for your interest in The Jethro Tull Board. We look forward to conversing with you in the coming weeks and months. We are living in interesting Tull times, and 2012 promises to be a very eventful year in Tull land! Cheers! Jeff

Somehow I reckon Martin's living in the past is going to be much much better than Ian's living in the past. If Ian wants to go in a different direction then he should get on with it instead of wasting another year down memory lane trying to replicate Brick with a kid half his age trying to be Martin. The whole thing is just silly.
When I saw Tull in March this year little did I know it might be the last time Ian and Martin perform together under the Tull name. Perhaps Ian needs some time away from his left hand man and then perhaps he'll remember just what Martin brings to the table. Go Martin!

All the fans have heard the stories.
If Ian comes to my town, I might.
If Martin comes to my state, I WILL.

All the fans have heard the stories. If Ian comes to my town, I might. If Martin comes to my state, I WILL. Hi, Paul, I hope we get to see both, Ian's Brick tour and Martin's Tull tour, next year here in the States. Welcome to The Jethro Tull Board! Many old friends here will remember you as peacejones from the old chat board quite a few years back. In honor of you joining us here: Jeff
