An interview from bass player , Chris Squire of Yes, commenting on opening for Tull in the old days. No disrepect to Yes fans , but I find it hard to fathom that Yes ever blew Tull ' out of the water'. I do remember somewhere that Ian said Tull had sort of did the same thing opening for Led Zeppelin and I can see them doing that on a good night. www.chrissquire.net/interviews.html

Yes is a great band, and I have only seen recorded shows, but I agree, I do not believe Yes could blow Tull out of the water on any night. Outplay them? Maybe sometimes. Blow them out of the water? That's just ego-feeding.

I thought the expression was "blew them off the stage". Regardless, NOBODY upstaged Tull in 1971.

I thought the expression was "blew them off the stage". Maybe he meant they just blew Tull? Ahem! Helluva first post.

We're going to have to ask Clive about that in our second round of questions, which is still open, folks, but we need some more before we send them off to him! Hint, hint.... Jeff

I think the only aspect to that that might be right was a few "core Yes fans might have been buying tickets, just like in 1969 when Tull had in there beginning had a similar start. I think Yes might have been very good on stage, but blown Tull off stage......I don't think so, maybe Chris Squire thought they did or that is what he was told or believed but I truly doubt it. The music industry was full of liars and dis honest crooks who just lie one minute to your face and steal you blind the next. So who really knows.
