XTC - Yacht Dance Oddly always thought that XTC might have been influenced by Tull/Anderson in some way. I love this album, and despite having a few more XTC albums on the shelves, have never experienced one that approaches this one for enjoyment. Andy Partridge and Ian could have made a good collaborative pairing possibly. This from the YouTube page of "fallingdown08"......... "From their 1982 album English Settlement Lyrics: We, we will dance like tiny boats with cotton sails upon the tops of the seas, That would pull us down to the depths and crush us flat if given half a chance. No need to look back to pictures of lost, when all was rust. We, we will skim across the surface of the mud as if we're spinning pebbles Oh, in our yacht dance Oh, in our yacht dance We, we will dance like tiny boats with cotton sails upon the tops of the seas, Made of people stained with scorn who never see the light of real love. No need to look back through diaries of lost now turned to dust. We, we will skate across the surface of the storm as if we're wheeling sea-birds. Oh, in our yacht dance Oh, in our yacht dance And how they'll be jealous of both of us! In our yacht dance. We, we will dance like tiny boats with cotton sails upon the tops of the seas, That would pull us down to the depths and crush us flat if given half a chance. No need to look back to pictures of lost, when all was rust. We, we will skim across the surface of the mud as if we're spinning pebbles Oh, in our yacht dance Oh, in our yacht dance." I remember XTC also. There was a song, ''Love at First Sight'', I used to always like. Are they still going? For a second or so we were running scared.

In the town where I was born, Lived a man who sailed to sea, And he told us of his life, In the land of submarines, So we sailed on to the sun, Till we found the sea green, And we lived beneath the waves, In our yellow submarine, We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. And our friends are all aboard, Many more of them live next door, And the band begins to play. Trumpets play) We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. (Full speed ahead, Mr. Barkley, full speed ahead! Full speed over here, sir! All together! All together! Aye, aye, sir, fire! Captain! Captain!) As we live a life of ease(life of ease) Every one of us(every one of us) has all we need,(has all we need) Sky of blue,(sky of blue) and sea green,(sea of green) In our yellow(In our yellow) submarine.(submarine) ( Haha! ) We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. (fading) We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. Are submarines accepted as ships? ;D Yesterday was a great posted songs about ships day, thanks folks

Beach Boys - Sloop J B
We come on the sloop John B My grandfather and me Around Nassau town we did roam Drinking all night Got into a fight Well I feel so broke up I want to go home
The Pouges - Drunken Boat
Ther's a sound that comes from miles away if you lean your head to hear A ship's bell rings on board a wreck where the air is still and clear And up in heaven that means another angel's got his wings But all below it signifies is a ship's gone in the drink
Richard Thompson - Mingulay Boat Song
Ships return now, heavy laden Mothers holdin' bairns a-cryin' They'll return, though, when the sun sets They'll return to Mingulay.

Jim, glad to know that this song brought to you such emotional remembrances Charly, I really liked your last batch Sail away, away Ripples never come back. Gone to the other side. Sail away, away. The face that launched a thousand shipsIs sinking fast, that happens you know, The water gets below. Seems not very long ago Lovelier she was than any that I know.

Nice thread. Surprised nobody posted this song yet:
On the fourth of July eighteen hundred and six We set sail from the sweet cove of Cork We were sailing away with a cargo of bricks For the grand city hall in New York 'Twas a wonderful craft, she was rigged fore-and-aft And oh, how the wild winds drove her. She'd got several blasts, she'd twenty-seven masts And we called her the Irish Rover.

Serge that was going to be in my next batch!!!!! Great song!!!! on my favorite Genesis songs I see this month is going to become a passionate play like winds was or even better. Keep on searching. Thanks buddy Sweet surrender on the quayside You remember we used to run and hide In the shadow of the cargoes I take you one time And we're counting all the numbers down to the waterline Near misses on the dogleap stairways French kisses in the darkened doorways A foghorn blowing out wild and cold A policeman shines a light upon my shoulder Up comes a coaster fast and silent in the night Over my shoulder all you can see are the pilot lights No money in our jackets and our jeans are torn Your hands are cold but your lips are warm She can see him on the jetty where they used to go She can feel him in the places where the sailors go When she's walking by the river and the railway line She can still hear him whisper Let's go down to the waterline Kai, the game has just begun, still a lot of good songs to expose. Great your song.

"Six Months in a Leaky Boat" by Split Enz. The truncated version (without "Pioneer", the introduction) was a hit here, NZ and Canada. (You may notice some Crowded House members)
My ancestors all took the long voyage to the Antipodes in the mid to latter 1800s. Must have been like going to the moon back then.

Another known as ship of fools song released by Peter Hammill from his album "Fireships" which I greatly worship. I expressly recommend all of you listening the next song, it's an exceptional, terrific tune from the same album . Synthesizers, Keyboards, electric guitar, Peter's rough voice, the whole snatch your mind. No ships quotes though worthy a listen. I couldn't withstand to divulge it. Sorry. ;D

Jefferson Airplane
Crosby Stills Nash and Young
Black sails knifing through the pitchblende night Away from the radioactive landmass madness From the silver-suited people searching out Uncontaminated food and shelter on the shores No glowing metal on our ship of wood only Free happy crazy people naked in the universe WE SPEAK EARTH TALK GO RIDE THE MUSIC
If you smile at me you know I will understand Cause that is something everybody everywhere does In the same language I can see by your coat my friend that you're from the other side There's just one thing I got to know Can you tell me please who won You must try some of my purple berries I been eating them for six or seven weeks now Haven't got sick once Probably keep us both alive Wooden ships on the water very free and easy Easy you know the way it's supposed to be Silver people on the shoreline leave us be Very free and easy Sail away where the mornin sun goes high Sail away where the wind blows sweet and young birds fly Take a sister by her hand Lead her far from this barren land Horror grips us as we watch you die All we can do is echo your anguished cry and Stare as all you human feelings die We are leaving You don't need us Go and take a sister by her hand Lead her far from this foreign land Somewhere where we might laugh again We are leaving You don't need us Sailing ships on the water very free and easy Easy you know the way it's supposed to be Silver people on the shoreline leave us be Very free And gone NO C'MON GO RIDE THE MUSIC C'MON RIDE IT CHILD

Black Sabbath - Sign Of The Southern Cross
From the book, the word is spoken Whispers from forgotten psalms Gather all around the young ones They will make us strong Reach above your dreams of pleasure Given life to those who died Look beyond your own horizons Sail the ship of signs

Here are some Pink Floyd songs for the topic
Pink Floyd - Lucufer Sam
Lucifer go to sea. Be a hip cat, be a ship's cat. Somewhere, anywhere.
Let There Be More Light
Far, far, far away - way People heard him say - say I will find a way - way There will come a day - day Something will be done. Then at last the mighty ship
Julia's Dream
Sunlight bright upon my pillow Lighter than an eiderdown Will she let the weeping willow Wind his branches round Julia dream, dreamboat queen, queen of all my dreams Every night I turn the light out
Echoes
The echo of a distant tide Comes willowing across the sand And everything is green and submarine And no one showed us to the land And no one knows the wheres or whys
Comfortably Numb
There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain, you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb
The Post War Dream
being so good at building ships the yards would still be open on the clyde
A Great Day For Freedom
On the day the wall came down They threw the locks onto the ground And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived On the day the wall came down The Ship of Fools had finally ran aground Promises lit up the night light doves in flight

Woodenships, a stellar song for this thread about ships. I also had it in my batch, good find, Charly. The Sabbath's tube is no longer available to watch in my country, I did look for another different, one live, another terrific one. . What an outstanding Floyd hunts bunch you've just posted. . Awesome! Thanks also geoffcb, Erin and My God for your contributions. Standing on the water, casting your bread While the eyes of the idol with the iron head are glowing Distant ships sailing into the mistYou were born with a snake in both of your fists while a hurricane was blowing Freedom just around the corner for you But with truth so far off, what good will it do. And yesterday I thought the thread was over after checkin' the lack of posts. let's keep on playing. ;D

Genesis
Window
High on a golden crested wave she sits The little nymphs dance in her hair The trees all beckon to the sky to bless their empty lives Horizons come to sip wine there The veiled mist reveals the wandering ship upon the reef The albatross flies to the stern But only Jack Frost saw the kiss you gave him in return
Broadway Melody Of 1974
Echoes of the Broadway Everglades, With her mythical madonnas still walking in their shades: Lenny Bruce, declares a truce and plays his other hand. Marshall McLuhan, casual viewin', head buried in the sand. Sirens on the rooftops wailing, but there's no ship sailing.
The Cage
But my cynic soon returns And the lifeboat burns. My spirit just never learns.

The Cage But my cynic soon returns And the lifeboat burns. My spirit just never learns. This song has [glow=red,2,300]'Far Out'[/glow] written all over it!If you can't have a flashback with this song, I guess you didn't party in 1974. Sounds just as good with Phil Collins singing because he shared vocals with Peter Gabriel anyway.

She's some kind of demon messing in the glue. If you don't watch out it'll stick to you. To you. What kind of fool are you? [Chorus] On a boat in the middle of a raging sea,She would make a scene for it all to be Ignored. And wouldn't you be bored? 400 messages on this board, hooray
