Indulge me - I think I.A. is the modern day Shakespeare. Critics of the Bard generally agree on his 4 greatest works 'The tragedies - Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and King Lear. If you had to choose Tulls 4 greatest works..... ? For me Aqualung and Thick as a Brick choose themselves after that it gets a little tricky but I would add Broadsword and Heavy Horses. Thoughts .... ?

Lyrics only I think a dozen or so would would tie for the lead. Can't think of one in particular that screams best lyrics. As a whole I like the lyrics on HH best I think, subjectivly speaking.

For me it would be TAAB, APP, SFTW and Minstrel. I did not put the the Chateau recordings in the list only because I guess you're talking finished and released works. Recently I am listening to it a lot and it is incredible. Just that LP side I posted the other day is breathtaking. Hope to hear it closer to what it would have been by the end of the year. Minstrel for me is an incredible gem. I thought it a good album but generaly went for Minstrel, Valhalla and such, but a few months ago and got into the album pretty deep, and couldn't believe I hadn't appreciated it as it deserves for so long. Awesome work.

Awesome work. I wouldn't put Ian on Shakespeare's level (or Robert Burns, for that matter); however, I'd definitely put him in the upper echelon of rock lyricists. To appreciate his lyrics, I'd choose Minstrel, APP and the three pastoral albums SFTW, HH and Stormwatch.
