What the hell is this even? It's certainly not singing. This is a song Ian should never sing again. Jeff

Sorry but this is just pathetic. Seriously Ian? The only way to protest is to not buy a ticket. But for everyone of me are 20 that think that I.A. gargling and rinsing or grunting out a number two is the most fantastic masterpiece that they have ever heard. I can't even watch 30 seconds of these clips. Add to the fact, the changing of lyrics and the pre recorded vocals ( I know, not all but about 30% because Ian counted) makes this a no show for me. A concert of Ian Anderson solo material , not this pseudo Tull , would be something to bring me back but it would never make a profit and will never materialize. The graphics and videos would be fine but leave off clips of a 40 year younger self and embrace the fact that I.A. is getting older. It has gotten so sad that I no longer care to read or hear any interviews any longer. Dan I have no idea what Ian was thinking with this project. I wish he would get back to simple songwriting at this point. Jeff

"I have no idea what Ian was thinking with this project. I wish he would get back to simple songwriting at this point.
Jeff"
You don't? He's repackaging the music he wrote for a band he used to lead in order to milk as much capitol out of it before the curtain falls permanently, because he believes he deserves the Lions share since he wrote all of the lyrics and arguably most of the music. Annnd he's doing it for an easy buck! No new album release to promote, video back-up singers (as touring back-up vocalist are very expensive). This is a cash grab! It's not for you or me or any true blue Jethro Tull fan. Enjoy! all you fair weather Tull fans, this Tulls for you! The last great IA tour was pre-TAAB ll. He didn't have "Jethro Tull's IA" blah plastered all over the marquee. It was all about the true fans, and he delved deep into the Tull archive, songs I'd never heard before live. His latest endeavors totally coincides with his SW re-mix/ repackaging of all the classic Tull albums. I find it ironic that with all of his capitalistic business acumen, he maintains such a liberal stance i.e. global warming, pro-illegal immigration. My least favorite recent lyric from Ian was on HomoE, "were coming in!" Well Ian, hang on because they're coming in alright and they are going to need your money, so make LOTS of it!
Haaaaa... I feel better now, time for some, oh I don't know, Heavy Horses maybe?

Granted I couldn't watch it all, but between Ian's failed attempt to sing along with the cheesy wardrobe and the guests who either are not singers or who's singing is out of place - I just can't watch this. I don't see how I could sit through this live.

I don't see how I could sit through this live. Well, you know, I've mellowed a bit on this. Having recently passed a milestone birthday (again) I'm listening to the new tracks, which like most folk I've put on a CD so that I don't have to give myself a migraine watching the clips. A couple of these tracks are, most would agree I think, basically ok. Or at least not too bad. Put together with a chunk of TAAB2 and HE and there's a sort of decent album in there. Sort of. If there is a UK tour next year and this existing show comes to my city, I'm only a short distance away, and I'll probably go - but I'll make sure to be in the Upper Circle looking down and I'll be spared the worst of the horrendous visuals. Not too many chances left to see Ian. I must be getting old. I'm just disappointed that Ian has put himself in position of risking being defined by the decline of these later years. To some extent this is mitigated by the concurrent release schedule of special editions. But nobody's fooled by that. I thought I'd put my old bootleg CDs up on ebay but I now discover that they're mostly all on Youtube. Damn! So if you though that there wasn't a decline in what Ian is doing now, then listen to this and learn. Or just to cheer yourself up. Play it loud. It cheered me up. But then I'm a sentimental old fool. Regards to all. Icy L

Paul, this has never happened to me before, but I have pretty much no interest in this dreadful show, other than to get together with you and Dennis, and Mike Grin, Rob Scollo, etc. Maybe we should just get together and skip the show. It is really that bad. Jeff

And if it is, we can cut out whenever we like. On a positive note, I have no desire to watch any of the Youtube videos so the show will be basically new.

I don't like the YT vids either but, I've got no problem with the sound of the band. I've bitched about what I see and hear on his tours a half dozen times on this board and then, I went to the show anyway. I've also witnessed Ian's reworking the entire set-list by the time it reaches the states. I think he saves his voice at the beginning of his tours and then steps up when it counts. Anyway, you guys can give us a heads-up by the time he reaches the west coast. BB

I see the headlines in my news feed of 'Ian talks about the real Jethro Tull' and all I can think of is 'really?' Who could have ever imagined that Ian would set himself up to discuss something he's tried to avoid his entire career? And there's something about young musicians latching on to old rockers that seems a bit too convenient, and vice versa. Funny thing, bitterness.

Really? whats with the rhetorical question? and I appreciate your participation however, Let's kindly explore the response/ post. Do the math. Ophale, Hammond etc.

Whenever I see younger people playing with an older performer it cements the fact that that particular artist has become an 'oldies' act. Not to mention that the hiring is in all probability based on financial reasons rather than musicianship.

Not to mention that the hiring is in all probability based on financial reasons rather than musicianship. Supposition and speculation! It's supply and demand: how many musicians of, or approaching, IA's age do think are: a) Available? b) Good enough? b) Willing to join an established act and do as they're told? c) Not Martin Barre? I can't see how the age of Ian Anderson's bandmates is relevant, at all! What are you refering to? Really? whats with the rhetorical question? and I appreciate your participation however, Let's kindly explore the response/ post. Do the math. Ophale, Hammond etc. I did the math s! Yes, they're youngish. Younger than Ian Anderson, at any rate. I just don't see how that's relevant, let alone "convenient"! Convenient, how?

They're hired hands, and that's fair enough! Don Airey, Eddie Jobson and even Maart Allcock were as well, as far as I'm concerned, but it doesn't matter! It was the "young musicians latching on to old rockers" bit that I didn't get!

How is it any different from a successful Plumber in his 60's who has a great business and team of younger plumbers working for him? Musicians should be classed as any other skill/trade/career and naturally they'll want to work! Working for Ian is about as good as it gets. They get to travel the world, are challenged musically and have a reliable income. Take young Florian, he'd be crazy to give that up, his income would fall dramatically the day he stopped working for Ian as most of Ian's past musicians have found. Being a musician is a hard choice to make, 99% of them will be poor because of that choice, regardless of their talent. You can't blame them for wanting to be working!

It's not about blame. Especially with the young guys.
It's just what it is. It's not as enjoyable is all I'm saying.
As for the work analogy. Did you ever contract with someone 'again' who (this time) sent his crew to do the work he used to do? I made that mistake once.

Telling the tale of Jethro Tull in a "rock opera" setting is about as interesting as telling the tale of Eli Whitney in a musical. Both great inventors but, if I'm a solo artist who just happened to land an extraordinary career off of some dead inventors name and then doesn't really want to do it anymore. Why languish in the queue of mediocrity? That's telling the tail-end of Jethro Tull (the band). Ian can still blow us away. He needs to flush that business acumen out of his system (hire someone) and get back to what he does best. I'd love to see another solo acoustic tour with new material sprinkled with Tull classics. Oh yeah, Nothings Easy!
