Just a few thoughts
I saw Tull last night in Manchester. I have seen Tull many times before and after the voice problems. Last nights show displayed some awesome musicianship . However something was lacking the spark was not there. Ians voice was about the worst I have ever heard..the rendition of Songs from the Wood was almost pitiful and it is of no suprise that this has been dropped from this tours set list on more than one occasion. However , I have learnt to put Ians vocal deficiencies to one side and have always enjoyed Tull live. Last nights show was very subdued though ..the band seemingly going through the motions in front of a very quiet unresponsive crowd ...the Manchester Apollo was only 3/4 s full ...just ten years ago Tull could sell out two consecutive nights there ..sadly no more.
The set list was varied but the pace was wrong it just did not engage the audience consistently and fully.
Fat man was dull . What was once an exciting extravaganza as performed at the Big top on German TV 1983 ( My favourite version of Fatman complete with I recognise you improvisation) has now become really plodding as if performed in vocal and instrumental slow motion through treacle. I enjoyed the unreleased tracks Tea with the Princess and Change of Horses.
Anyway off to Sheffield and liverpool next week Can only get better well in my dreams
