I may have told this story on the old board, but based on the 2010 tour reports, it's worth repeating...... About four years ago I was at a party in NJ......There was a group of four guys talking about a Tull show they attended, I believe the show was in Red Bank, the previous year or two. All they talked about was Ian's voice, how horrible it was and how Tull should get a new vocalist. They were just your average Tull fans, probably attempting to relive some past concert experience. They did not know/realize that I was a hugh Tull fan. I just kept quiet. I figured it was a lose/lose situation.

Yeah, Max....know the feeling. Of all my close "musical" friends, I was basically the only one who continued religiously going to Tull shows, even if alone (get great saet that way too!) Then, as long ago as 1999, took two of my close musical friends who always dug Tull to a Jones Beach show. These guys are musicians & have a good "ear", as I do. They were pissed off! felt they were ripped off and real disappointed. I remeber my buddy saying Ian sounded like Popeye the sailor man. "Ten Years After" had opened & on way home, they kept saying how much more TYA's set.

You're friends have a valid argument Tommie. While many of the diehards will argue Ian has the right to do whatever he wants, or his flute playing makes up for the vocal deficiencies, it doesn't change the fact that he is SELLING a product based on the premise that he can still sing.
I might be in the minority, but I think his vocals are more important than the flute....

It is an equally as important part of the product and if its flawed the performance is flawed as well, he should get his kid to sing...
