Long overdue for a Rush thread here...a band still at the height of their powers. Their concerts literally tear a hole in the roof of wherever they play, and when playing outdoors, a hole in the sky. My ears were ringing for two days after their Snakes and Arrows show at MSG....and that's as it should be.
Word is that there is not only a tour on the way this summer, but also a new album. Thanks, Tullskull, for reawakening the Rush flame in me.
Here is Red Barchetta from the 2008 tour, a throwback to the seventies arena shows, replete with lasers and lots and lots of weed. (I think you'll like this one a lot, Paul.)

Two live versions of my favorite Rush song ever, with different sound, the first from Philly being more treble, the second from the year before, having a more bass feel and softer vocals.
The part starting at around 1'30" beginning where he sings "the wheels of time have passed you by...." and then for about 30 seconds after that never fails to send chills up my spine and into my cranium.
I LOVE this song:
Interesting note: I only posted the live versions, but there is also a youtube vid of the studio version, and afterward this exchange between two Rush/Tull fans:
jstarang1 fav RUSH song...only band imo that holds a candle is Jethro Tull Muffincakester91 (3 days ago) and all members of Rush are actually fans of Jethro Tull Muffincakester91 that is soo true i have been noticing that a lot lately...especially since i saw tull in philly last october and saw more fans with rush shirts than tull shirts...my 2 fav bands by far tho and zep or floyd is a close third

My favorite lyrical passage from "Between the Wheels":
"We can go from boom to bust from dreams to a bowl of dust We can fall from rockets' red glare down to "Brother can you spare.." Another war -- another wasteland And another...lost generation"
The song was written in 1984, but the lyrics seem even more relevant now, with the deep economic troubles this country is having now, compared to the "boom" years of the eighties.
These guys are great, folks....just a great band and truly likeable performers. Their lyrics often focus on the theme of the search for Truth, Honesty, Justice and Equality. Imagine a band where all three guys have the personality of Martin, and that is Rush. I love this band! (Second only to Tull of course, but there is no comparison between the two bands in terms of their current live performances.)
Jeff
Next up: Acoustic Rush, and let me tell you they do a lot absolutely beautiful ballads, in addition to the crunching rock.

Tootull is going to hate this comparison, but here is one of my favorite Rush songs, Time Stands Still, which has lyrics that remind me of A Time for Everything.
Freeze this moment a little bit longer. Burn the wagon and chain the mule. The inexorable march of time.
With Aimee Mann on backing vocals:

Remember this rather narrow window that is the internet: ;D I'll write a tall tale about it. And I mean tall. That was quaint. I kid about Rush 'cause I'm from Toronto. Don't ask me why = the water? HAHA No. It's the vocals! Rush is fine music. Like it is for some with Neil Young, it's the vocals that shred my ears. Besides Rush on comps I own and like the Rush Feedback CD. Maxed to the wall sound on that CD, eh! A conform or be cast out post. Hey now! Again.

And, oh by the way: A Time for Everything is another league. You should know better than compare.

And, oh by the way: A Time for Everything is another league. You should know better than compare. No argument there, tootull. A Time for Everything is among my top 3 Tull songs of all time*, and although I like Time Stands Still by Rush, it is not in the same league. I only posted it because the lyrics are along the same lines as A Time for Everything. Jeff * My top ten song countdown (excluding album-length songs)goes something like this: Velvet Green, We Used to Know, A Time for Everything, Wond'ring Again, Orion, Heavy Horses, Aqualung, Back to the Family, Skating Away and Black Sunday. Well, for Nos. 5-10 that's my list for today, but Nos. 1-5 will never change.

I used to listen to RUSH all the time. Saw them in 1997, and at the time I was going out with this guy who looked exactly like Geddy Lee. People were even approaching us at the show. Too funny! But the ex-bf was actually a drummer. His older brother is actually who got me into Tull and RUSH. It's weird how many Tull fans also like RUSH!! Anyway, it was the largest concert I'd ever been to. I was so unbelievably far away. My concert list is seriously short compared to all the rest of you, so I don't have as much to compare to, but yes, very huge audience. Big following. For some reason all my RUSH cds are gone. I think I only have Moving Pictures or something. I know one was stolen from my car. No, the person didn't go for the RUSH cd, it was in my player and that was stolen. I love Red Barchetta too and many others....

Tull, Rush, Yes and a dash of King Crimson. These are a few of my favorite things.
