Good afternoon Ulla.Have you been to Alba's Itullian Convention?Did you enjoy, and, was it as usual good? It was a great weekend - again. The downer first: Barrie Barlow could not do it, because he was in the studio recording with Megan Henwood. They had a dead line and were stressed out by getting everything together. But apart from that: Brilliant!!! We arrived on Friday evening and joined the Fairports and some friends of Jethro´s and Itullians for dinner (8 starters, 3 main courses, sweets and cheese, excellent wine). There was a young Italian acoustic band who played some old Italian folk songs while we sat at the table. After dinner they started to play some kind of Italian Kletzschmer music, what was FANTASTIC. Peggy joined in with an acoustic guitar. Their singer Guiseppe (called Peppino) did an incredible solo on a tambourine. We could not believe what we saw. Afterwards I asked Clive: "And why do you need a full drum kit?" Clive invited Peppino to join him for his drum solo and the Fairports invited him to do some things on "Woodworm Swing". Saturday saw the usual Italian style of organisation: discussions, confusion, some more discussions, nothing really happens, discussions,... But in the end everything was fine. The official proceedings started with a film dedicated to John Glascock. Then Fairport Convention took the stage and I have to say they went down a storm. Their set list was a good mixture of songs for "First-Timers" and that was a wise decision. After that it was time for Beggar´s Farm and friends. Peggy and Gerry Conway joined them for some tunes, f.e. Pussy Willow. Jacqui McShee sang 2 of her own songs and the boys of Beggar´s Farm did do their homework. they were very good. Then it was time for Clive to enter the drum stool. He played Wind Up, Hymn 43, A New Day Yesterday (with Phil, an English guitarist), My Sunday Feeling and for the first time after 40 years Back To the Family, followed by a drum solo extraodinaire - with Guiseppe on Tambourine during the first 24 bars or so. After Aqualung Gerry Conway took the second drum kit and they played Loco together. Great! Then the Fairports came back on stage to play Meet On The Ledge, their anthem. Back at the hotel Peggy started a jam session and they all played together till 5 o´clock in the morning. So: Thank you, dear Itullians for another unforgettable Convention.

That sounds incredible, Ulla, what a great convention! Too bad that Barry couldn't make it, but everything else sounds like it was so much fun. Peggy and Fairport jamming until 5:00 a.m. at the hotel, Clive playing all those old Tull songs, Beggar's Farm with Tull guests....I so wish I could have gone! Jeff
