It has to come to an end? When will JT (not Ian Solo) call it quits?

I used to think Tull would wrap it up by 1979, and in some ways I wish they had. I think Ian will continue to perform as long as there's a profit to be made and he's healthy enough to tour. His voice was great for the first 15 years but has been shot for the last 25, yet nothing seems to slow him down. I remember an interview back in 1996 when he estimated he might perform another ten years, but would know it was time to call it a day when he no longer enjoyed performing. Regardless of when, the day he finally does throw in the towel will be a sad day indeed.
P.S. Will they really be playing TAAB in its entirety for the it's 25 year anniversary? That must mean APP will follow in 2013! I'm not sure I believe it!

Actually Matt it will be "Thick as a Brick" 40th year anniversary as this year it's "Aqualung" 2 years from now "A Passion Play" etc. However I think it will end with TAAB, they will not (in my opinion) attempt to do APP live again...it just would not work. One thing does kind of bother me though. I recently saw a photo of tickets of an upcoming show in Chicago and the tickets were $103 each. I understand they need to make money...however that is just about double what they should be. Yes everything costs alot more than 40 years ago...but not 10 to 15 times more like these tickets...just 10 12 years ago I saw Tull in Nevada and tickets were $25.....4X that is more than I would be willing to pay...and I love Tull. I believe they are only performing for/to their ultra wealthy fans who can afford anything at any price..very sad

Matt Hi, Matt I think that Ian will continue to perform, either with a solo band, or perhaps even completely solo, for as long as he feels he is physically able. I don't think he really has any time limits, and he has said that the thought of retirement disagrees with him. Tull, though, is another story. The emphasis for the past 5+ years has really been on the solo shows, that's where the creative spark has been, and not really with Tull. The Tull brand name is kept alive to attract interest, and that could be what's behind the 40th Anniversary tour where they perform the entire Brick album in concert. (We understand that it's definitely going to happen, we just don't know how many shows they will do.) I believe there will be one or two solo albums released in future years, but I'd also like to see the release of at least one more Tull album before it's all over. We shall see. Jeff

I believe they are only performing for/to their ultra wealthy fans who can afford anything at any price..very sad I agree, James, the cost has become prohibitive, especially for good seats. The money these days is in touring, not album sales, whereas in the seventies and eighties the reverse was true. I also agree with you that they would again never attempt to do the entire Passion Play album live, even though it appears that they will be doing all of Brick in 2012. You may well be right in believing the 2012 tour will be the last Jethro Tull tour, but it's hard to say. Certainly, Ian will continue to perform in some guise, but at some point I think he will retire Tull. Jeff

Oops I meant 40 years since the release of TAAB! I believe my ticket to see Tull on that tour was $4.00... it would be difficult to justify paying more than 25 times as much to see the same piece of music played next year - especially since it won't begin to compare to that amazing performance of 40 yrs ago... still, I can't imagine missing the show if it the tour comes to town. If Martin Barre is there, I'll be there.

When it is over, will be sitting out on my deck, bottle of Jack, pack of smokes, noose hanging from a nearby tree(kidding). Will be a sad day in my life but will then remember what a great part of the soundtrack of my life Tull shows have been for 36 years and still going for the time being, prefer not to dwell on unhappy future moments, when they arrive will deal with 'em then.
