What do you feel were Martin's peak performances on albums (or tours)? His style has definitely evolved and gone through subtle changes over the years.
For me, I truly love his playing from 1991-1992: not only on "Catfish Rising" and "A Little Light Music," but also the subsequent "Light and Dark" tour. He contributed many tasty little adornments to the songs, on both electric and acoustic guitar. They stand out, to me, as being different to some of the stuff he played before or since.
Any thoughts? What are your favorite Martin moments?
David

My favourite Martin moment was his gig with Dan Crisp in Wellington Somerset a few years back. It was up close personal and loud got to meet Martin and John O Hara before and after the show which was brilliant.Highlight was a storming version of to Cry you a Song

Well, you must listen to this first one all the way through it is the rocket engine that got Tull this far (2011) and the instrumental is Martins design and his solo is KILLER. It was their regular Encore from 71 thru 73 and changed a little each night. This was 1972, unfortunately it ends before Locomotive breath begins and Martin "continues" his thrashing of the audience and on to "Hard Headed English Generals" and the Wind Up reprise. This is a steller 72 performance. And so many more!!! Well thats enough for a while. Darin

I have to agree with Darin, for live guitar solo "Hard Headed English Generals" and the Wind Up reprise.absolutely incredable. The solo in We used to Know was another killer solo. I think my favorite on album is Minstrel In The Gallery

I am still sad that the general didnt appear on the Aqualung remix ..It surely must have been recorded...maybe its languishing in the TAAB outtakes or album sessions

Martin's playing on the Thick as a Brick tour in 1972. Sorry, but if you didn't see that tour, you don't know what Martin is (was) capable of.

I was just thinking about the combination of Martin and Pegg with a great drummer. Then I thought well that would be a cool Power Trio just like the name of this song! This is some pretty tight....stuff.

It would be difficult to tour with a 3 piece band without big name recognition of all 3 members. I would go as long as Martin showed up. Barriemore Barlow would be the best drummer if available. I wonder if Eddie Jobson is still willing? That would be very interesting too. Barre/Pegg/Barlow/Jobson - not bad at all.

I like your idea for a fourth instrument, like a violin or a flute, but not Jobson....he's a bit of a wank. (and he's a synth player!) Darin

He gave me a few badges to hand out if any new 3 piece groups emerged. Oh yes The Police were another successful 3 piece. Also Nirvana until they became 4 piece. Oops, Triumph from Canada. Oops, again. ELP
