From what little I heard of the new material on the TAAB2 promo video, the voice is sounding good! There is joy in Tullville

www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showpost.php?p=7366235&postcount=24From Steven Wilson's FB page: "I recently had the pleasure of mixing the new Ian Anderson / Jethro Tull album, which is a follow up to the classic Thick as a Brick album from 1972. TAAB2 is very much in the tradition of the first album, a continuous 54 minute concept piece with a similar musical palette and style. It's just been officially announced for release in April as a CD/DVD (including a 5.1 mix and stereo in high res), more details on the Tull website. I also completed mixes for a 40th anniversary surround sound edition of the original Thick as a Brick, though not sure when that is coming out."

This should definitely be good. I'm surprised it's not the original 40+ minute long song format, but I guess that's sort of hard to market these days, especially on CD. Well an Ian release is better than nothing. I have high hopes for this one. Should be his best in a while! Although it says Ian, I'll take this as a Jethro Tull Album. Just another incarnation of Tull. It may be better than we think. I'm glad it's something new, just a little different. My words but a whisper, deafness a shout.

Different shades on the Brick wall. For a minute or two I was worried about the original getting a 5.1 release. - This is the best news to me. I go crazy thinking about the original in 5.1. Playing YouTube -TAAB2, the music sounds decent enough. Marching on music! ...the old school song. More acoustic guitars is great. Post of the day: www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showpost.php?p=7366662&postcount=33 It's the same old story - yes, it's the same old show.
Well, hello all you gentlemen, I fear I'm a lot like you. We're wearing the same school tie but a different pair of shoes. - Ian Anderson

At the risk of sounding like a sycophantic fan (although there are a fair number of Tull songs I don't like: "Teacher," "To Cry You A Song," "Hymn 43," "Bad-Eyed and Loveless" among them), I am REALLY looking forward to this album and tour. For years I have been hoping that Ian would release one more studio album before he retires, and so, this is good news. I'm really excited! His voice not might be what it was, but he is better on his instruments than ever before, and, since there are bound to be lots of instrumental passages on this album, I say: BRING ON APRIL 2nd!

Great article! I predict that Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond will be at some of the U.K. shows. If anyone deserves a spotlight, he does. Just a gut feeling. ;D He should at least do the weather report. ;D

Nice to hear that Ian has moved back towards more acoustic guitar use in composing and playing on TaaB2, that's something I'm particularly looking forward to.
Maybe not the first time that Ian has explored the themes of getting old, I recall prior to the release of TOTRNR, the stories in the press was that the next Tull album would explore he themes of getting old from several viewpoints, however, the album seemed to focus primarily on the 'rocker' and the 'beatnik'. .
So, could the politician from 'strip cartoon' turn out o be GB?

It would be surprising if Jeffrey Hammond was at some of the shows. Doesn't seem like that guy has much interest in playing Bass anymore, though I would hunt for the youtube videos right away if he was. That would be awesome. The return of the pin-stripes.
I definitely like Ian's acoustic compositions, but I think it would be cool to hear him work with some electric stuff. You don't hear as much of it on his solo albums. I know it sounds like TaaB 2 has more of the acoustic stuff, but I hope it has a fair share of electric on it too. Preferably topped by some badass flute solos.

I think Ian is smart to trend towards the acoustic. There is less opportunities for people to go: "That sounds nice, but would have sounded better with Martin." I think by emphasizing the acoustic... he may well be playing to his bands current strengths...

The lyrics were credited at the time to the fictitious child character, Gerald Bostock, whose parents supposedly lied about his age. The record instantly became a number one Billboard Chart album and enjoyed considerable success in many countries of the world. So, forty years on, what would Gerald Bostock aged fifty in 2012 be doing today? What might have befallen him? The anniversary part two album will examine the possible different paths that the precocious young schoolboy, Gerald Bostock, might have taken later in life through alter-ego characters with song-section identities illustrating the hugely varied potential twists and turns of fate and opportunity. Not just for Gerald but to echo how our own lives develop, change direction and ultimately conclude through chance encounters and interventions, however tiny and insignificant they might seem at the time. So! Come on ye childhood heroes! Won't you rise up from the pages of your comic-books your super crooks and show us all the way. Well! Make your will and testament. Won't you? Join your local government. We'll have Superman for president let Robin save the day.
