Man it really looks like him, but I'm definetly curious as to how Ian would answer this question. I suppose Dee Palmer would know also. So who wants to ask her? Why, you do of course. Find some pictures of Dee with Glasscock and barter for the answer! DC

This is a temporary truce. If you, Pat or Ian can verify the real person dressed as the Queen. I'll accept your belief until proven otherwise. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

If you are referring to this album, We're Only In It For The Money, I can think of no Zappa related product that I would recommend more strongly. My favorite from that version of the band for sure, though some might mark Freak Out, or Hot Rats, though Hot Rats was not a Mothers record, in fact it is after he had just canned those guys. I tended to be mostly a fan of his output with the earliest version of the Mothers as heard here, nearly all of whom Zappa fired very much out of the blue, makies Tull's bit of 1980 look tame, as all those guys in the Mothers loved their jobs. But they also loved acid and having a great time, and Frank very certainly did not. This record is a near perfect take off on Sergeant Peppers, the suburbanization of the hippie culture. "I will go the Chamber of Commerce and ask them how to get to Haight St and smoke an awful lot of dope. I will have a psychedelic gleam in my eye at all times" Some damn good tunes amongst the humor on that record too. By the time Zappa had become more mainstream popular in 73with Over Nite Sensation and the one that had followed it, I believe he had signifigantly dumbed down the product, lots of humor that would be welcome in your average locker room or grade school. Always a bitchin guitar player, and that Lumpy Gravy type thing he did of the Senate hearings on profanity on records was his last great stroke. Doubtless a very great loss, way way too soon.

I was never a huge fan of Zappa. The dude was obviously really smart and had an incredible sense Of music, but I've always thought he was too opinionated, sarcastic, cynical. Sure, Ian is opinionated and cynical a lot of the time, but he constructs what he has to say thoroughly and carefully. Zappa would just blurt it out rapidfire, a lot like his guitar style. I remember in some interview, even though I know Ian loves Zappa, Ian was talking about how Zappa would just play and play not pausing, no breaks at any time. Ian knows the value of when knowing not to play, which is why he likes Barre. That's sort of the way I feel about zappas music. A lot of it is in the head, intriguing, captivating, but absolutely no room for repose for inward thoughts.

I tend to agree with you almost lockstep Kai. That record I would recommend front to back, not sure I could say that of any of his others including Hot Rats, though Peaches En Regalia is just one of those perfect songs, and very Zappa. And the one time I saw him live, quite late in the game in 84, he and his band were much better and weirder than I expected, because I had not found him particularly weird, sort of his original calling card, since the earliest Mothers days. As with Ian I found much of the sexual humor pretty infantile. I mean I don't mind it exactly but make it good, and that realm rarely is.

OK Folks, Ian kindly sent me a reply....willl it still the raging waters of this debate? I doubt it! My question.... On the back cover of Warchild, there is, depicting the song 'Queen and Country', a Queen knighting Jeffrey.
I always thought that this was Patrick Halling, but it appears as if there was some photo-jiggery and Ian's image was 'cut and pasted', so the question is: Was the Queen Ian in disguise?
It would settle a long running thread on the board
Hope the tour is going well.
Regards
PatIan's reply is: No - there were a few models hired for this photo - the little girl, the nun and the queen, I am pretty sure.
Some of the others were wives and girlfriends, record company people and so on.
But definitely no Patrick Halling or me in disguise. The photo was live - no pre-photoshop jiggery-pokery.
Best,
IA

Best,
IAWell there's not a lot of wiggle room here........I'll accept it as true! I'd still like to know where he was, cause he's not in the back, that IS cut and pasted in. Darin

Hey Darin the noses on the queen and Ian look almost identical to my untrained eye and all. They seem to morph into one another perfectly..
Interesting for sure.....another mystery

Darin So Ian says, The photo was live - no pre-photoshop jiggery-pokery. Okay, but if there was no jiggery and it was live than the Sealion was in the studio with them? The one thats not complete between Martins legs or Shonas? Just "asking questions that belong without an answer"..... Darin C

Okay, okay! I'll take your word on it. But, I will ask Ian myself in Asheville on September 28th. If he tells me a different person was the Queen, Arnold Schwarzenegger will come visit you. As Ben Richards - The Running Man!

The question has been asked of Ian! If we get an answer, read it here first Thats great. I will look forward to what he has to say.......but I doubt he will fess up in a straight forward manor. It's not in his DNA. He will give an answer that can be read either way. He rarely has answered questions about songs and lyric content and he wanted us to wonder in the first place. Yes, Dee Palmer, or any other member would be a better bet. Martin would spill nowadays! Thanks for putting that out there though, who knows maybe he'd be so amused that anyone still cares he'll just let go and tell the story. I can handle the truth. Darin Cody ps. and I still can't believe I got you to say it Jim!!!!!! that never happens. I do not think Ian will ever give us a straight answer for this question. Like Darin said it is not in his DNA. Ian as of late has lets re write the Tull history syndrome. He only gives out information that will benefit himself. Just my opinion

Agreed, some of their joking can cause more grimaced than laughs. On the subject of effeminate Ian, there could be more of a presence of that sort of thing in his songwriting today because it is a big issue as of late, what with gay marriage and all. Also, there is less pressure I suspect to be a man's man in most places.

Damn Jim, I didn't know about that. I always thought it was Jethro. At the 23:00 minute mark, Granny walks past Jethrine, Elly Mae, and Jed at the cement pond. Everyone is passed out from eating Pearl's ham hocks. Then Granny sees Jethro and tries to get him to eat her food. Jethro and Jethrine are together at the cement pond. This proves they are 2 different people. ;D ;D
