Some of you may know me as "analog man". Certainly my previous posts touted the benefits of vinyl vs. digital. I feel the need to run my mouth, what better forum than this.
Subsequent to my last series of posts, in order to accommodate a late '70s model high end JVC cassette deck, I've found that I can purchase factory recorded cassette tapes at both Goodwill and Salvation Army retail stores. Both these stores charge $.50 for tapes. That's right fifty cents. Unfortunately, I've not found any Tull. After acquiring a good collection, the motor in my unit crapped out. I found a great replacement on Ebay, with shipping cost me $59. The original retail on this unit was $350. I prefer vinyl over tape, tape over CD, sorry to all of you BlueRay fans.
Additionally, I took the plunge, found a qualified technician, and had my 1977 Sansui 7070 receiver fully restored. We are talking new capacitors, a replaced circuit, all new lamps, everything. Luckily, I was able to trade a collection of my concert photos for the restoration which was done by SE Systems in Greensboro. They sell and rent systems for concert music and are most likely the best in the southeast US.
The result is that the sound is better than anything I've ever heard. Sold my Adcom power amp, I'm thinking of selling my Marantz separates. Maybe not!

Less than a year ago, my wife and I purchased a refurbished Sansui 9090db, and had the surrounds replaced on the 15" Cerwin Vega woofers in my home audio speakers - along with having the crossovers "gone through". The combo of these Cerwins and the Sansui receiver makes for some of the best audio that I've ever heard (to my ears, anyway). My next purchase it to hopefully upgrade to a better (older) turntable. I've currently got a mid to late 80's JVC that's fully functional, but I'd like something that more cosmetically matches the Sansui, and possibly has more mass to help reduce the vibration feedback at higher volumes.
Nothing compares to the vintage stereo equipment's audio quality...and vinyl...*sigh*

I started this post quite some time ago. Over the past several months, lot's has taken place in my analog world.
First, I had my vintage Sansui 7070 rebuilt with brand new caps. I had planned on selling it but after listening, quickly changed my mind. Then I found a tech in Muskegon MI to rebuild my vintage JVC KD-85 cassette deck.
Last week, after much soul searching, I took delivery of a brand new Rega turntable. When playing my albums on the Rega, through the 7070 into my vintage Polk SDA speakers, I'm just completely floored. I always thought that the mark of a great turntable was great specs. I was wrong. The Rega folks don't even publish the specs as they are really not important. Last year I ran my mouth about vinyl, now I'm shouting. Tull fans, spring for the restored "Aqualung" vinyl, spring for a great audiophile quality turntable, then enjoy the best you've ever heard.

Yay, I've got 3 Rega turntables, a Planar 2, a P3-24 and a P9! The P3 and P9 are coupled with an Ortofon 2M black. I can vouch for vinyl too!!
