Since Benefit is not just my favourite Tull album, but also one of my all-time favourite records, I think I'll pass on this one.
Can't wait for the refurbished Passion Play, though. ^^

Good point, I mean, how many versions of these songs does one need? After so many releases, perhaps Chrysalis owes it to the long time fans to throw us a bone the same way software companies do. If you're a first time buyer you should pay more than if you are "upgrading." For assistance, I offer this easy to follow method: If this is your first purchase of Benefit = you pay full retail price. Purchasing this whilst already owning the This Was/Stand Up/Benefit -Box set = you pay 95% of retail. Purchasing this whilst already owning the This Was/Stand Up/Benefit -Box set, and the 2001 Remaster = you pay 75% of retail. Purchasing this whilst already owning the This Was/Stand Up/Benefit -Box set, the 2001 Remaster, and the Original CD = you pay 50% of retail. Purchasing this whilst already owning the This Was/Stand Up/Benefit -Box set, the 2001 Remaster, the Original CD, and the Cassette = you pay 35% of retail. Purchasing this whilst already owning the 2001 Remaster, the Original CD, the Cassette, and the LP = you pay 25% of retail. Purchasing this whilst already owning the 2001 Remaster, the Original CD, the Cassette, the LP, and the 8-track = you pay 10% of retail. Purchasing this whilst already owning the 2001 Remaster, the Original CD, the Cassette, the LP, the 8-track, and the reel-to-reel = you give it to us along with a thank you card.

Anybody else buy MU- The best of Jethro Tull just to get the Rainbow Blues track ? Admit I did - love that song but can't help thinking Tull fans have been bit squeezed by the record company at times.

Happy to say though that it was worth it at the time. Rainbow Blues is a track I'd pay a good few bucks for as well. There is a magic to hunting down and discovering tracks on physical recordings. I remember finding this vinyl ep with four track on it - the leftovers from the Under Wraps recordings. I didn't know what it was until I got the CD of Underwraps which had all the tracks. There just wasn't room on the vinyl. I thought I had found something there for a few minutes. Another weird thing was finding something I played on back in the 80s (on the web) that I learned recently was released in 07 that I had totally forgotten about. Anyway, for me, the greatest thing was the 20 year box set which had a load of stuff that I'd never heard and only heard of, and some of those are among my top ten favorites. I don't know if the box set counts as an album per se but it remains my favorite release - that and SFTW. Odd too that Rainbow Blues wasn't on that. Is that track anywhere else other than MU?

Rainbow Blues is on the remastered Warchild.
MU was my second Tull album, first was Original Masters. So I was just kind of testing the Tull waters in the beginning as you can see. I heart the APP edit before hearing the entire thing and heard many others for the first time. Rainbow Blues was an instant favourite. *ETA, I meant heard, not heart the APP edit, but I do heart it too.
I didn't know at the time it was a song left on the cutting room floor. I don't understand the Tull Phenomenon of "Hey, let's leave all the bestest music off the album!" but...hey, keeps things mysterious I guess.

I can't believe all the stuff left off Broadsword. There was enough for a double album easily, and the best stuff was left off. Yeah, Rainbow Blues would be on Warchild wouldn't it. I don't have the remaster of that one. I've forgotten how you discovered Tull. What was it that grabbed you? Oh, and I I heart APP also. Yeah, Grif is you too, definately. Fin is dad. I'm not kidding Mothy, when my wife saw the photo of the last kid's portrait you sent she went tears, honestly. Too much cute to deal with all at once.

I see what you've been doing...replying to each of our conversations in one spot. So, yes. I believe that Tull sat down and figured out a way to get less people to like music by tossing aside the best music. This one is just too good for the fans to hear, scrap it! Don't let them hear Jack-A-Lynn, put on Cheerio. My Tull discovery. Hmm, it's complicated. I had a high school boyfriend who told me that his brother liked Tull and aggravated him with it. I said, "What's Tull?" he said, "Oh you know...sitting on a park bench" Well, I kind of liked that song, but kind of didn't like it. I would do anything to aggravate said boyfriend, so I bought Original Masters. It was okay. I liked the second song I ever heard, Too Old to Rock n Roll. I bought MU and loved it, the fanaticism was more set in place. So yeah, you could probably say Rainbow Blues help do it. And APP #8, I didn't even know there was a whole APP at that point. I give credit to my fantastic photographer for that picture, she was just amazing. Made the kids look like angels. Finn looks like dad so much that I'm not sure if I had a part in that...That professional photo was the last one we got of all three together. It just doesn't work! Someone is either crying, screaming, or running away. Maybe I'll try again this year.

I'm a compulsive person so I group things and such without thinking. Terrible habit actually. I walk into a waiting room and I straighten the pictures on the wall and count the tiles and angles of the room. If I were to walk into your house I would notice all the lines, angles or semitries that might be off a smidge. Yeah I know, but I inherited it. My dad is nuts with this stuff. My old, old friends called me Sherlock, but I'm not as bad as I used to be. Right, Jackalyn, Jack Frost, Broadford Bazzar, how do you just leave those off an album. So, you got into Tull by aggrivating your boyfriend. So now your Tull obsession is the karma from that, hee hee. How strange. Back in 71 I was listening to the Allman's Whipping Post on the radio one night. The DJ said, "That's a tribute to Duane Allman who was sadly killed today." Then came the opening riff to Aqualung immediately after. That brought me fully awake. Next day I bought Benefit. Aqualung wasnt in yet. How funny, trying to get all the kids to sit still. It's the same everywhere I guess. Yes, there is that angelic quality about the photo isn't it. Very beautiful. Oh, to further consolidate, those bread recipe's, or the names thereof, sound awesome. Bread is my weakness ...... , that and chocolate. My wife is a bread baking whizz too. So have at it. We need some new recipes.

I am disappointed that there are not any alternative takes on this collection. The remixed Aqualung collection was made much more attractive by the inclusion of early versions of up the pool and others.
The tracks on the Benefit collection do not appear to include the remixed versions which appeared on the 25 years collection. It would have been interesting to compare these with S.Wilsons work

Am I the only one upset that they've savaged the album Living in the Past and split up the songs all over the damn place? Yes, yes, yes, I am aware of the chronological order of the different songs, but LitP is a living, breathing entity to me, with a totally different vibe than Stand Up, Benefit or Aqualung.
That's my autumn/winter Tull album (although I'm not sure why).
To be truthful, I'd rather buy an extended version collectors edition of Living in the Past.

Well they probably are waiting before they release the super deluxe Living In The Past 4 disk set and 4 album extra heavy 180 gram vinyl edition until 2016,with the 68 page book. After EMI/Chrysalis have put out the entire catalog are redone into deluxe editions.
I agree Living In The Past was such a major piece of the puzzle and it is a shame that they have taken so many of the pieces out and put them into other puzzles.

Butternut bread sounds umpsious. If you ever get them up I'll have a go at one. The wife makes a sweet sourdough bread that we use for sandwiches. It kills toasted too. I can do a whole loaf at one sitting. People here fight over it. Em is picky? That's suppose to be the youngest or only child that's picky. I wasn't allowed that luxury growing up. If Mom served it we had to eat it, period. Fortunately it was always good. Looks like you're having a hard time with the pad. Good luck with the laptop.

Ahh, Kelpie is a favorite. Love the light jig in there. I hear all music in dance. Haha
That's Kenneth also who eats an entire loaf of whatever. He's Mr. Carbs
Nah em isn't that picky, she'll eat it but but doesn't want to hear about it being butternut. She actually asks me for broccoli a lot.
Finn is the youngest and yes, is sort of picky, but I've heard of worse. I was that way, including gagging at the table and such. It was horrid.
Notice I'm having an easier time? Laptop is still broke but I got my tablet to work. Kenneth's was terrible. He thinks his is awesome and mine sucks and he can think that but I think my coherent posts will tell the truth.
