Great thread idea and great link, Jim....I love Roman History! In fact, classical antiquity was my college major. Ian has already covered modern times, the future and various historical eras from the past....Victorian, Elizabethan, Baroque and Medieval. It's time for Tull to do a Greek and Roman album....and yes, I can see Ian, Martin, et al. all dressed in togas for the album cover! Jeff

You're definitely right, Jimbo, and you have hit on a great new thread topic. I know there are a lot of "real-life Tullnames" out there, so this thread should be some fun...I love stuff like this! And you want to know something really funny? My favorite Latin lyric poet was Catullus, who like Ian was known for his bawdy lyrics. Wait, doggone it, you've just given me a new thread idea! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CatullusJeff

"Tull-ian" names appear in every era of Roman history. When Rome was a monarchy, its fourth king was Tullus Hostilius (673 B.C.- 641 B.C.) and its seventh king was Servius Tullius (579 B.C.- 535 B.C.). During the Republican era there were many "Roman Tulls", including the aforementioned Catullus and his enemy, Marcus Tullius Cicero, whose daughter was Tullia! And during the Empire there were the emperors Aurel-ian, Valer-ian and Justin-ian, not to mention the greatest of them all, Octav-ian, who changed his name to Augustus when he became emperor.
So I would say that a Tull album that harkens back to ancient Roman times would be most appropriate. And maybe for his next solo project Ian could set the odes of Catullus to music, wielding the flute in his usual phallic manner, with Martin strumming away on the lute, even though Florian is the more Roman-sounding name, as there was a Roman emperor Florianus in 276 A.D.!

Jim, don't forget that it was you great thread and your post about that Roman history museum that gave me the idea for it! And by the way, if you ever visit New York, we'll have to take a trip to the village of Tully, located in the Town of Tully which was named after, you guessed it.....Marcus Tullius Cicero! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tully_(village),_New_York And while we're up there we'll grab a cup of coffee: www.tullys.com/And then maybe take in a flick: www.tullythemovie.com/Jeff

Check out this "green" lumber supply company, ironically named Anderson-Tully Worldwide, sharing Ian's concern with the environment: www.andersontully.com/Jeff
