We've been talking food all day here, but here's some real food for thought:
Why do we do what we do? I mean why are we all such rabid fans, and does it make sense to spend so much time and money, and go to such great lengths when it comes to Jethro Tull, and to make Ian Anderson richer and richer, especially when Anderson doesn't seem to really care what long-time fans like us want?
Are we nothing more than camp followers or, worse yet, idol worshippers? Doesn't Ian hate fanatics like us, and wouldn't he be laughing up his sleeve that we would waste our time and money in this way? Are we all a bit daft, like the fans in the Nick Hornby novel that Steelmonkey has been reading? Am I crazy for even bringing this up?
Jeff
P.S. I am playing devil's advocate here, just trying to stir up a discussion and maybe a bit of self-exploration and/or self-justification. Obviously, I do not truly believe this is a waste or time at all, for reasons I will discuss as the thread goes on.

I am playing devil's advocate here, just trying to stir up a discussion and maybe a bit of self-exploration and/or self-justification. Obviously, I do not truly believe this is a waste or time at all, for reasons I will discuss as the thread goes on. This topic has been discussed to great extent on the other board...I believe we are the way we are because the music and words have made an impact in our lives and or touched us in a way nothing else has...and I believe Ian has always had someone good intentions. But I am naiive....... As for the self-exploration...why am I like this? I am likely to become obsessed with things. Music, ideas, people, movies, anything...I like things that are eccentric, obscure, symbolic, intelligent, things that cause emotion or have lots of emotion....I am not one to follow the crowd in many ways..I gravitate toward being obsessed with things that not as many other people are...not on purpose, but coincedentally or subconciously on purpose, I do not know...Tull generally seems to be for people who do not follow the crowd...You guys know...I can recite Tull songs but have no idea what happened on American Idol...when something just strikes a chord with me, I tend to keep going back to it...I don't like tooty fruity love songs and that kind of crap...Tull's love songs are to a minimum. I tend to like things from the 70's even though I wasn't around then.... Also, over the last approx 14 years I've bought a lot of Tull CDs, DVDs and concert tickets because it has all been new to me still....and I like it. Not sure if that's what you were looking for, but that's my answer...ha
