StateMaster Encyclopedia's article on Ian contains some interesting trivia at the end, much of which we already know. But here is something that I have never heard before. According to the article, Ian's nickname is "Bubbles" or "The Bubbler" !!! www.statemaster.com/encyclopedia/Ian-Anderson-(musician)No further elaboration is given as to the origin of this nickname, but I would love to hear that one. Does anyone know anything about that? Jeff

Everyone knows the story about their teenage Blackpool friend Tony Wilkinson offering up that they (Barrie, John, Jeffrey) used to call Ian "Elvo" after Elivis in their teenage years, apparently because, if I remember right, (it was in an interview in A New Day in 89 or 90, shortly before this guy died, suddenly i think)incredibly, at that time Ian sounded or moved a little like him, and they all probably liked Elvis, dunno. But I do recall this Tony guy, who apparently was an all around nice guy, said it was a good way to get Ian angry was to call him Elvo. Reminds me of that Dont call me scarface bit for some reason.

I'll buy you six bay mares to put in your stable --- six golden apples bought with my pay. I am the first blower who blows the sweet tune, but I must be gone by the seventh day. So come on, I'm the bubbler. I have a wand and a can to play. Get ready for the bubbler. I bubble along on the seventh day --- bubble along on the seventh day. All kinds of sadness I've left behind me. Many's the day when I have done wrong. But I'll be yours for ever and ever. Climb in the saddle and bubble along. So come on, I'm the bubbler. I have a wand and a can to play. Get ready for the bubbler. I bubble along on the seventh day --- bubble along on the seventh day. Deep red are the sun-sets in mystical places. Black are the nights on summer-day sands. We'll find the speck of truth in each riddle. Hold the first grain of love in our hands. bubbles.org/html/solutions/can.htm

We still have not gotten to the bottom of this! Does anyone know how Ian came to be called "Bubbles" or "The Bubbler?" There's got to be a story behind that one.
