For those in the know...
I keep dreaming of soundboards from 71-77 that may be in vaults somewhere.
Does anybody know if anything was recorded back then? Or is it a bonified lost cause?

Hi, Luke,
That has been the subject of much speculation, I believe, but other than that I'm afraid I can't help you. I'm really not an expert on the history of the band aside from the general outline and well-known details.
The man to talk to about that is our own tootull. He is our resident Tull historian, librarian and archivist!

I suspect there are hundreds of sound board recordings in Ian's attic but I also bet, and this is much more exciting, that many 70's shows were recorded in multi-track. Tull were massive in the 70's and I cannot believe that Bursting Out was the only album released because it was recorded properly. In fact I have a bootleg from the Storm Watch tour that is clearly multitrack. Assuming the tapes remain, this has got to be the Tull Holy Grail. Perhaps it won't be released until James inherits his fathers legacy.
But I do think Tull have an unexploited live output that should be exploited.

Couldn't agree more Mix, I have some 'discs' which seem to be clearly taken from high quality soundboard recordings which would put many a live album from other bands to shame. It amazes me that Ian maintains that there is nothing left, when, as you say, the band were so massive I would have thought that the record company is likely to have insisted that some shows were taped or even filmed, even if Ian didn't. It also seems odd to go to create a show the scale and like of TaaB, APP or Warchild and not preserve it in someway; especially as Ian seemed to want to experiment with multi-media presentations around the time of APP and Warchild. I'm sure that I can recall seeing cameras at one of the London Rainbow Warchild gigs and then later in thier career at Hammersmith [either heavy Horses or Stormwatch] and it would be great to see that surface.

If a multi-tracked TAAB or Warchild show surfaced I'd have a heart attack.
