Still disappointed advertising man isn't included. These remixes should be including every possible Tull song. Every Tull fan wants to hear it. It's probably one of Tulls best songs from 1976. Most of the bonus tracks on the remixes have been among the top 5 or 10 from the remix packages. No harm including the song. But disappointment knowing there's a track not being included. As for APP remix. Sailor, Big top and foot of the stairs extended version are great reasons to get the remix. The drums sound much better in the chateau stuff. It is album quality for the first time. Audition and Left right are awesome

Hey Jeff, I think the best for me are Benefit & APP. Warchild was great too but Minstrel has been my least favourite, perhaps because it's not one of my favourite albums anyway. Ian's Guitar work on Benefit has a whole new clarity. For anyone who isn't sure of the difference between 'remaster' & 'remix' here's the deal. Music is generally recorded at a studio in multitrack. So each instrument has it's own track, and indeed each part of the drum kit might have it's own track too. So when the recording is done they will mix it. So you can raise the volumes of each instrument. Perhaps the Guitar has too much top end making it sound harsh, you can EQ just the guitar to adjust that without affecting the other instruments. Perhaps you might want a little echo effect on the Flute but only the Flute, you can do that. Once the mix is complete a Stereo master is made and this is what we hear. Remastering is taking that original stereo mix made back in the day and cleaning it up, maybe EQ'ing it, raising the volume, etc. But this can only be done for the whole mix, not the individual instruments. So if there is an issue with one of the instruments within the mix, remastering won't help. What Steven Wilson is doing with these releases is going back to the multitrack masters. He can then deal with each instrument track. So take Ian's Guitar on the Benefit album. The original is a bit dull. Steven EQ'ed that guitar to bring out the full clarity of the recording of Ian's Guitar. Steven has a real talent at doing this and his mixes stay true to the original mix. It's a bit like when an old painting is restored, suddenly you see the colours how they originally were intended. It's a lot of work, far more complex than remastering. I believe the SW remixes will become the standard for the catalogue, personally I wouldn't bother with any previous releases. I can't wait for him to tackle Storm Watch, hopefully he can fix that awful Bass Guitar sound. It's not clear if SW will do any of the 80's albums but with a bit of luck whoever does will get rid of the horrible 1980's digital reverb. Crest & Rock Island will benefit hugely if the reverbs are fixed. And who knows, maybe a special bonus disk idea, Ian could cough up and release a version of Under Wraps with real drums! Yes, I understand the difference between the two, and your explanation is helpful to fully explain it. What you say about the remixes staying true to the original mix is important, because I remember that the remixed classic songs on the 25th box set were not always true to the originals. For me, the SW remixes are nice, but I'm still reluctant to spend the money on these sets unless there is a decent amount of previously unreleased material, or in the case of Minstrel (although it has never been one of my favorites either) there is an entire live show for which there are no bootlegs. I'll probably end up getting that one and TOTRNR at some point, maybe not right away though. Jeff

Maybe flat transfer is as clean as we'll get? I would think it's the best digital copy of the original mix.

Jethro Tull track Commercial Traveller has been made available to stream. The previously unreleased song features on Too Old To Rock 'N' Roll: Too Young To Die!: The TV Special Edition, which is released on November 27. The collection features a previously unreleased re-recorded version of the album which was originally planned for a UK TV special. The package also includes flat transfers of the 1976 record, TV footage, outtakes and bonus tracks. Ian Anderson says: "Here we are with a slight return to the heady years of 1976 and the notion that you're never too old to rock and roll. Remixed by Steven Wilson and unleashing upon an unprepared fan base the additional tracks, TV show recordings as well as other goodies, this collection brings back memories for me at any rate. "Unfortunately, some memories have not returned to their rightful owner as I have little recollection of even recording the additional archive tracks. But there they are in glorious analogue multi-track form so it must have really happened. "Enjoy and suck in the heady air of the seventies and promise not to laugh at the silly cozies and the hair-sprayed mane." classicrock.teamrock.com/news/2015-11-17/jethro-tull-stream-commercial-traveller

I heard it on Spotify play.spotify.com/album/5Wfe1VoCikSSB2CIEgCLYsIt's really cool. Probably better than almost every song on the album as I expected. I love Strip cartoon also, which wasn't on the album either. Advertising man is probably another gem which we will miss out on

Ian said recently that his next project will be with John O'Hara and a string quartet. After that he claims to want to delve into (the dark side of) love songs. Well that sounds promising, yeah, okay. Do they have any vocalists in mind? Oops, shit! There I go again. Maybe they could hand out little airline pillows to all attendees. Excuse me, I've lost my spectacles! Did you say Crock Opera?, Aquadung?, Locommode Death?, and Heavy Horseshit? ...and what Tropical Tissues that include climate chains? ...vitriol guest? oooh indeed! (where are those bloody glasses?) Video will NOT appear here. So go fash yersel. ...and who gives a crap. Martin and co. wrote the music and lan added his lyrics, blew his skinny flute, and coughed up his tenor. So what do you do in your spare time besides cherry picking quotes? Certainly not contributing here. And may I suggest, Check Spelling. Some of us are trying to keep this board alive, that's all.

Some of us are trying to keep this board alive, that's all. I'd be more inclined to contribute if there was less tedious, juvenile sniping and more constructive discussion. But perhaps that's just me. Sorry about the spelling error, I usually try to pay more attention. It's 'tenner' not 'tenor', by the way.

You are re-posting my quotes and replies from like-minded members quotes and relplies. Pulling snippets from here and there. You don't have to read them. I'm open to hearing about your concert experiences or reviews, Tull or otherwise. Do you have any? If I recall correctly, I've always respectfully addressed you as either HH or Heavy Horse. It's Biggles, not Bigglesworth.

Finally got chance to hear Commercial Traveller, after Dan kindly e-mailed it to me. Strange how such songs, together with others from WC and MITG era, never made cut onto albums nor later anniversaries. Anyway, song is pure 70's tull, interesting melody with one of the best used orchestra (probably string quartet) and brass section wich only can be compared to Sweet Dream maybe. Now the other sider of the coin.. chorus is too catchy, too simple.. and seems like sound quality suffers, probably due to lack of the original mix or whatever was the issue with original tapes, Steven Wilson mentioned. Anyway, looking forward to hear whole album, and specially next two remixes of SFTW and HH.

When I originally copy and pasted that interview it had an underlined "click here" at the end that wouldn't paste. I found the link but got the same message as you. TOTRNR was a comeback album of sorts for Tull, I'm not a big fan of all these remixes but I may pick this one and MITG up.

Constructive discussion? When I first joined this board, there was a hilarious thread that was getting a lot of replies: Homo Erraticus Substitutis game.

Sorry about the spelling error, I usually try to pay more attention. It's 'tenner' not 'tenor', by the way. We've always had a lot of constructive and serious discussion here, all you have to do is look back at some of the many threads that we've had in the past. But there's also been a healthy amount of honest criticism, and, yes, poking some fun at our musical heroes to go along with all the praise. I think we've always had a more irreverent approach than, say, other Tull discussion sites. And I think that is perfectly okay, because when you've followed an artist for as long as we all have, you begin to develop some conflicting feelings, or at least that has been the case with me. HH, are you Dirk from the German Tull tribute, TAAB? I think so, am I right? Jeff
