Just received the following email from Ravinia (a popular oudoor venue in the north suburbs of Chicago)
Included was a press photo of the band - Martin and Doane included. Not sure if it was a new photo, but certainly it was recent (keyboardist and bass from the current solo tour were in there).

You're giving me a big head (on top of the bulbous thing I have now). I do Americade every year in June. But I'll see how far it is from LG, and look at the possibility of making it part of the weeks events.

I'll be riding that week up in Lake George. I can't make Jones Beach either. It has to be the PNC in Joisey for me. Spent a lot of formulative teenage years in Lake George not too far from me. The Lakehouse bar was a great hangout and I don't know if it even still exists. Always thought of it as a tourist trap. Spent many days skipping High School up there and a lot of friends took summer jobs there. One of my fathers favorite stories he still asks his friends when I'm around ,"How far it is from my house to the High School?" The answer is about 4 miles . His reply would be , "Would you believe 180 miles?" Disbelieving his friends would ask, "How can that be?" Dad's reply, "I don't know either , but whenever I let my kid borrow the car for school, he puts about 180 miles on it." I figured if I left the gas gauge where it was when I took it then no one would notice. Dumb ass teenager didn't guess he would check the odometer! Dan

I Just got my tickets in the mail for Boston, Saw Ian in October and it was an all right show, but it is not!!! the same without MARTIN. Nothing against Florian, who is a fine and very gifted guitarists, but he is no MARTIN BARRE and I hope this does not become a trend. If it does then it should not be called Jethro Tull but The Ian Anderson Band. Ian said back at around 25th anniversary with no Martin their is no Tull.

Be sure to give us your review. It sounds as though some new songs will be played. Let's just hope by new he wasn't talking about the 2 new ones from the acoustic tour....

I'm seeing Tull this Saturday (March 6th ) Oxford New Theatre. Anyone going from here? So, Ash, what is your verdict? A lot of us are quite disappointed in the setlist, not living up to what it was adverstised to be, and from the looks of what was played, it does not seem that there was a lot for Martin to do on many of the songs. We are looking forward to your impression of the show! Jeff

I was not sure about going to one of the German shows this year. But now that I saw the setlist I know: I will NOT buy a ticket!!! You were smart to wait. I was duped yet again. I looked at that set list...same stuff that has been recycled over the past few years. It was blatant false advertising to say that there were going to be surprises, songs Tull have never played before, or not for a long time, as well as new material too. Jeff P.S. So I guess 120 will be it for you, Ulla!

I was not sure about going to one of the German shows this year. But now that I saw the setlist I know: I will NOT buy a ticket!!! Ulla, you're lucky. Unfortunately, I did buy my tickets prior to the set list being leaked. However, I've decided to waste my money but not suffer the boredom of lsitening to something that I've heard several times before [with the exception of one new song]. So, as not to spoil it for all those good, solid Tull fans out there who will see no wrong during their twelve dances with their God, I won't be going to the gig. I got a better offer to spend sometime with some people that I actually care to be around. So, my two empty seats can act as a small, yet possibly insignificant and petty visual testament to my disenchantment with the current state of affairs, both on and off stage. The setlist is bad enough, and as I said elsewhere being tarred as a "Ian-hater", who's just crawled out of the woodwork by a bunch of sycophants takes the biscuit. Especially since a number of them also now seem to be saying "Ooooo, I'm a bit disappointed with the set-list". Beware that's the start of the slippery slope to hell. I wonder how many more think it, but haven't got the wherewithal to admit it? And as for those who express some small concern, I wonder when they'll have their posts deleted?

Let's take a look at Ian's comments about this tour vs the setlist.
Ian says about this tour “Of all the music recorded by Jethro Tull over the years, there are several songs which have rarely, if ever, been performed in public. We look forward to introducing some of this material to the setlist in 2010 along with some of the tried and trusty favourites. Martin Barre and I, along with long-standing drummer Doane Perry and old friends David Goodier and John O'Hara will bring variety and depth to the concerts with the aid of a few forgotten musical instruments currently being dug out of the rusty skip and dusted down for action. (I know I put that Sousaphone somewhere safe....)
“People can expect to see a little bit of whatever it is people think is Jethro Tull. Over the years we’ve had a few pop things, some more hard rock, folk rock, classical, jazz – it’s really my job to make sure the set list is 80 per cent different to the last time we came to town, with a reasonable cross section of musical styles and some ‘deep catalogue’ obscure things for the dedicated, educated fan."
1. Dun Ringill 2. The Water Carrier 3. Life Is a Long Song 4. Eurology
Not quite the rousing start you might expect for a Jethro Tull concert with Ian coming off the more mellow acoustic tour. And sorry, if this is in fact a Jethro Tull concert, why are two out of the first 4 opening numbers solo tracks?
5. Nothing is Easy 6. A New Day Yesterday
Okay, these songs I can handle. Their great tunes, and even though we've heard them repeatedly over the years at least he usually can sing them fairly well.
7. Songs from the Wood
This is just a disaster waiting to happen. I cannot believe Ian would try to pull this off. He hasn't been able to sing this for at least a decade.
8. Fat Man
As if the Water Carrier wasn't enough... 9. Bouree
Please...
10. Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll
Another track he should never try to sing again. 11. Birthday Card at Christmas
This must be one of those rare tracks Ian was referring to. I have no problem with the song per se but I do have a problem with Christmas songs in March.
12. A Change of Horses
I'll give him this one.
13. Bug
Nice of him to give Martin his 5 minutes...
14. Budapest 15. Aqualung 16. Encore: 16. Locomotive Breath
Of course these must be the tried and trusty favorites that no core fan wants to hear any longer.
So of course the question remains what happened to those several songs that have rarely been played in public? And where are those forgotten instruments he referred to? And finally, what about those deeper cuts Ian has in store for us core fans?
This absolutely sucks. But this is and has been Jethro Tull for quite some time. The big question is, will we give Jethro Tull the opportunity to "suck us in" yet again down the road?
